Suhr: Smooth Asymmetrical Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

Johannes 'Suhr' Rasmussen's journey into pipe making is a continuation of a legacy. The grandson of legendary artisans Poul Rasmussen and Anne Julie, Shur inherited both the lineage and passion of pipe craftsmanship at an early age, crafting his first pipe at just eight years old. Under the mentorship of Tom Eltang, a master in his own right, Shur honed not only the technical finesse of classic pipe making but also cultivated a style of his own.

This bent Dublin by Shur boasts an alluring profile, full of organic curvature and clean lines. A crisp ridgeline runs from the rim to the end of the shank, lending dynamic tension to the composition compared to the shank's serpentine-like bend. In contrast, the other flank of the bowl retains a supple, clean curvature, matching well with the aft of the profile's arching bend. The bowl preserves the traditional Dublin flare, with its rim marked by a sharply defined ridgeline that emphasizes the shape's asymmetry. The shank is low-set to the bowl, pushing the fore of the composition into prominence with a sense of motion that flows all the way into the button of the vulcanite mouthpiece.

Shur oriented this piece to showcase stunning grain, with the rim topped with dense birdseye, trickling into the flanks that are lined with tendrils of flame grain, growing from an additional sea of birdseye that encases the underside of the stummel.
