Todd Johnson: Smooth Origami with Bakelite Stem (Hoplyte) Tobacco Pipe

Todd Johnson created in this signature execution a shape that both maximizes the grain that the briar had to offer and creates the illusion of paper being folded at the same time. The view from the rim shows Todd's subtle blending of plateau with the smooth; the front shows a gorgeous tear drop which draws one eye to the edge. Following that edge down to the right front oblique, the pipe is transformed into the genesis of an oraganic shape. The left oblique, the illusion continues. One can see the upper lip being curled in the process of "folding". The key lime of the bit goes so perfectly with Todd's vibrant, high contrast stain. Mesmerizing!
