Todd Johnson: Smooth Dublin with Brass (Phalanx) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-194-0097
A neat contrast of sharp, tapering lines, extra stout proportions, and craggy, organic crowns of rugged plateau, this Dublin shape from Todd Johnson is just a stunning example of the carver's work. The interplay between the craggy texture of the plateau and the shape's sharp, rakish lines is really interesting; the opposite styles don't compete with each other, but work together to create a striking silhouette in profile. That careful balance is even evident in the bright brass stem base as well, which Todd has carved out along the top to emulate the craggy texture of the plateau-crowned shank end — a subtle detail, sure, but one which really ties the whole composition together quite nicely. Of course, on top of all that, you'll also find a gorgeous display of flame and straight grain, the fiery storm emanating from the spur beneath the transition.
