Tonni Nielsen: Smooth Paneled Bent Brandy with Boxwood (Viking) Tobacco Pipe

In the paneling of this Nielsen Brandy's bowl I see a good dose of firmness and controlled style coming to play, yet controlled and firm is not the impression I get from this design as a whole. The trick of that is in the livelier and lifting elements that balance out with the clean planes and edges; that flick of a short shank and pertness of the line of the underside as it leads to the strongly curved heel. All of this results in a shape that's compact yet lovely, neat but a little playful — all of which can be a little distracting. By that I mean it took a while before I moved on to notice, you know, the gorgeous grain.
