Tonni Nielsen: Smooth Bent Dublin with Boxwood and Black Palm
Product Number: 002-192-0298
Though still featuring a lovely S-curve in profile, this bent Dublin shape presents a firmer, more powerful overall silhouette than many of Tonni's light and airy, Danish renditions. This striking effect is realized through Nielsen having lent a good bit of extra stoutness to both bowl, transition, and shank, as well as a more upright posture and defined taper to the bowl itself, and a bolder style of heel — giving the entire composition a look of powerful muscularity and forward-rushing momentum. As impressive as the shaping is, the true gem of Tonni's designs always lie in their immaculate grain patterns and perfect orientations — both of which are readily on display here in this piece.
Stained in a beautiful, slightly warm contrast stain, you'll find 360 degrees of flame grain spouting out around the bowl, with a tight-knit sea of birdseye running along its paneled underside and softly domed rim. What's more, Tonni's choice of accent here is just perfect — boxwood and black palm making for an excellent pairing, with the lighter shades in the palm's grain echoing the color of the boxwood that surrounds it. As an added touch, you'll also find a small briar button along the top-right side of the rim: a curious feature that adds just the right amount of tactile interest in hand.
