Tonni Nielsen: Smooth Diamond Shank Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-192-0304
Tonni Nielsen's bent Dublin shapes are some of his most iconic signature takes on the classics, typically featuring a tight-knit, strongly arcing transition and a generous bend, often with a crown of craggy plateau adorning the rim. The Danish artisan has done something a little different with this piece, however, setting a strongly tapered Dublin bowl to the crisp diamond shank of a Bulldog. Rather than creating a stolid sense of structured geometry and architectural style, as you might expect, the interplay between the defined lines of the shank and the sharp taper of the bowl actually work to emphasize the shape's striking dynamism and implied forward momentum in profile — producing a sleek, elegant, and forward-rushing silhouette. It's not exactly rakish or jaunty, however, Tonni having balanced those harder lines with a soft, lifting gesture to the heel, a bit of sweep to the transition, a subtle dome to the rim, and a drawn out S-curve in profile. Really interesting piece!
