The straight Billiard is perhaps the most iconic of all pipe shapes, and Vauen's "03" rendition perfectly encapsulates the traditional archetype with balanced proportions between bowl height and shank and stem length. Fitting to the German marque's usual style, though, it's a slightly more muscular rendition, offering in-hand substance and accommodating a 9mm filter.
Introduced in 2021, the Kira line presents Vauen shapes in a rich contrast stain, requiring an intensive process of staining and sanding to finish the stummel in two distinct stain colors, with this piece featuring a richly textured sandblast. The line's name derives from the Sanskrit word for "ray of sunshine," and the dramatically contrasted presentation does well to support that sunny theme, with bronze- and silver-hued accents echoing the warm and bright motif.
