Founded in 1848 by Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Zeiner, Vauen is Germany's oldest pipe factory and the birthplace of the 9mm pipe filter — an innovation that has since become standard across most of the marque's designs. Vauen's Jay series is characterized by two distinct finishes: a jet-black smooth finish and a crisp, earthy sandblast. This particular "42" bent Apple wears the series's dark finish, which is here elevated by a flashy metallic band.
