Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Freehand
Product Number: 002-560-0148
Typically, when we encounter a Freehand within the context of a carver's already established body of work, and especially such a fanning, organic number as this, the situation would merit the observation that the piece is "something different" or maybe "a more wild design than we're accustomed to seeing". Well, this piece is the work of Werner Mummert, and while it is certainly something different for the artisan, I wouldn't exactly say it's any more wild than his usual fare. Indeed, this fanning Freehand would likely be on the more conservative end of his shaping spectrum, though showing more of an organic disposition than say his artful Cubius and Deco creations. It's not without an added sense of flourish however, as Werner's lent the tapering aft something of a leftward curve, making for a little implied motion when viewed from above, along with the profile a boteh teardrop. And as for the grain, well, I'd say an entire composition dominated by broad rings and craggy plateau is about as good as it gets.
