Werner Mummert: Partially Sandblasted Bulldog
Product Number: 002-560-0177
Werner Mummert's style of firm-lined Bulldog has become something of a signature, each piece tweaked just enough to be individual, while maintaining the same streamlined form all around. True to Mummert's particularly avante-guarde, modernist style of shaping, this example is sharp-lined and steep of taper at the bowl, with just enough breadth to the shank to ensure it feels quite comfortable in hand. While Mummert is known for his Art Deco style of finishes, with their swirling lines and vivid colors, this piece has gone for a more subtle approach — a crisp sandblast in a light hue, which really brings out some neat stacks of ring grain around the bowl, as well as a colorful vulcanite stem in hues of red and black, with a few flecks of light gray-green that explode into a swirl at the button's face.- Rachel DuBose
