Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Oak Bent Apple

Product Number: 002-560-0187

Werner Mummert salvaged a great deal of oak beams from a 16th century church, and has been crafting pipes out of them for some time. The unique material makes for some fetching grain patterns, particularly when sandblasted, which feel quite pleasant in hand — and in this case, make for a delightful base for one of his more classically-inclined shapes. A sturdy bent Apple with a tall, well-rounded bowl, this piece belies some of the unusual shaping and crisp lines we often associate with Mummert's work, instead hewing closer to the Danish archetype of the shape. An abbreviated shank, domed stem base, and sleek line of stem, all make for a piece that is as comfortable as it is handsome, their lines perfectly balanced on all sides.
