Werner Mummert: 'Driftwood' Bulldog
Product Number: 002-560-0206
Crafted by Werner Mummert, this Bulldog has quite the crisp, modern profile to its shaping and color. From the sharp heel to the diamond shank, the proportions of this piece have been carefully considered to balance each element of the design, and all are accentuated by the finely-striated, feathery grain that the German carver has brought out via a proprietary method. Like a sandblast, the softer portions of the briar have been removed to showcase the grain's natural texture; however, the German carver achieved this sans sandblaster. The results make for wispy tendrils of raised grain and an individual texture in hand. The transition rises more than halfway up the bowl and the possesses a classic diamond-shaped cross section, its higher panels longer than those of the underside and rising in scalpel-like precision to an extremely defined upper ridgeline. Those angles and planes and lines are echoed in the stummel, which is paneled and contrasted by a rim defined by a softly curved dome.- Chuck Stanion
