Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Natural Barrel
Product Number: 002-560-0237
Werner Mummert has made the Barrel a signature shape, and he has rendered many in his career, all with similar minimalist forms to this example. Most of those Barrels are Reverse Calabashes, but not this one. When the abbreviated mouthpiece is removed, a circular depression shows itself around the airway, and three happy miniature people are situated inside. Werner says that it's a happy pipe to be smoked when in a happy mood, and perhaps these people are there to encourage such a positive mood.
The sandblast is medium deep and provides excellent texture under the finger pads, while the colorful mouthpiece contrasts with the traditional finishing. If you've been looking for a pipe unlike just about any other, your search could end here. This is a pipe with distinct character.
