Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Barrel with Tamper and Stand Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-560-0256

Werner Mummert is renowned in the pipe community for being among the most innovative artisans, often experimenting with colors and shaping cues alike. One is just as likely to find a classically inclined Billiard among his portfolio or a piece dressed in his vibrant, multi-hued Deco finish.

The Barrel is a signature shape from the German carver, who's also acclaimed for his playful use of color, and he's made quite a few of these particular pipes in various finishes. In this rendition, the affable piece wears a crisp, crimson sandblast, Mummert's intuitive shaping ensuring that tight growth rings striate across the stummel. His Barrels often house reverse Calabash engineering, but this striking version bears a standard mortise-and-tenon configuration. Rather compact, this fetching pipe also features a cumberland accent of complementing hues and is topped by an abbreviated, jet-black saddle stem.

Accompanying this pipe from the German artisan is a memorable pipe stand. Werner tells us it's the skull of a ram, upon which the Barrel design readily sits. The curved tamper, too, is sourced from the bone of the same animal and is filled with black resin, while the brass foot tops things off.
