Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Brandy Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-560-0321

Compared to his stylized Bulldogs and modernist reverse Calabash Pokers, this Brandy from Werner Mummert is somewhat reserved, though no less innovative, easily recognized as the work of the celebrated German carver. The finish and color palette in particular reflect Mummert's signature style — the sandblast prompting deeply grooved ring grain to wrap the bowl and the dark stain of the stummel contrasted tastefully by a stem of brindled black and deep purple vulcanite. A stout bowl dominates the fore of the composition, featuring a sleek upward taper from its plump heel. Behind the cheeked transition, a slim round shank stretches into the expertly cut stem, perfectly balanced to make this piece an easy clencher. The rugged sandblast that dresses the stummel is further elevated by a smooth rim, creating handsome contrast and winning combination of visual and tactile appeal.
