Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Full House Poker Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-560-0379
An engineer, a member of the European Wood Turner Association, and a pipe maker for nearly 40 years, German artisan Werner Mummert's skills are second to none. Furthermore, Mummert has an exceptional aesthetic eye, drawing inspiration from art exhibitions and pipe making masters such as Balleby, Manduela, and Ivarsson. Mummert has cultivated a unique style that centers around minimalist shaping and exquisite finishes, which occasionally delve into the avant-garde, as can be seen in his glass shanks and LEGO Pokers. Mummert once said, "My goal is this: if you see my pipes, you don't need to look at the stamp to see who made it." Undoubtedly, his original, eye-catching pipes are proof he has achieved his goal.
Who said Germans don't have a sense of humor? This Poker by Werner Mummert features spot-carved card suits on the bowl, a playful pun on the shape's name. Moreover, the shaping here is quite classic, pairing a sturdy, cylindrical bowl to an elongated shank and abbreviated saddle stem, which calls to mind the lean style of old-school corncob pipes. Furthermore, in addition to the whimsical spot carving, the stummel is dressed in one of Mummert's remarkably soft sandblasts, highlighting understated, angularly-oriented growth rings on the bowl, while the shank reveals striking, swirling grain patterns.
