Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Lovat Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-560-0392
An engineer, a member of the European Wood Turner Association, and a pipe maker for nearly 40 years, German artisan Werner Mummert's skills are second to none. Furthermore, Mummert has an exceptional aesthetic eye, drawing inspiration from art exhibitions and pipe making masters such as Balleby, Manduela, and Ivarsson. Mummert has cultivated a unique style that centers around minimalist shaping and exquisite finishes, which occasionally delve into the avant-garde, as can be seen in his glass shanks and LEGO Pokers. Mummert once said, "My goal is this: if you see my pipes, you don't need to look at the stamp to see who made it." Undoubtedly, his original, eye-catching pipes are proof he has achieved his goal.
This Lovat by Werner Mummert presents all of the quintessential elements of an Anglo-French rendition of the shape: a supple, tapered bowl; a rounded, elongated shank, and a sleek, abbreviated saddle stem. However, Mummert puts his unique mark on the timeless, graceful shape with one of his signature sandblasts. Mummert's sandblasts are always extraordinarily deep, which is highlighted here by a scaly pattern of concentric growth rings on the bowl and a stretch of diagonally-oriented grain that sweeps down the shank. Additionally, the stummel is dressed in a warm auburn stain, keeping the palette classic, while the forest-green brindled stem provides a dose of eye-catching color.
