Winslow: Smooth Bent Dublin (Private Collection)
Product Number: 002-036-1852
The Private Collection designation is reserved for only the most pristine pieces from Poul Winslow, showcasing stunning grain and excellent shaping. The stamp denotes what Poul himself considers to be superlative examples of grain and form while also being the highest honor a Winslow pipe can receive. This bent Dublin addition to the prestigious series fits in well with the Danish carver's penchant for bold and muscular takes on classic shapes.
While its proportions are quite hearty throughout, the flaring bowl commands much of the visual weight and it certainly deserve to as the grain is absolutely magnificent. The subtle ridgelines along the shank's underside frame a swirling sea of birdseye from which vivid streaks of lively flame grain erupt, traveling up towards the broad, undulating rim that's been topped with dimpled plateau. All that stunning grain is expertly highlighted thanks to one of Poul's signature vibrant contrast stains and results in a stunning piece that would easily fit into any collection.- Jeffery Sitts
