Winslow: 2019 Rusticated Pipe of the Year with Silver (037)
Product Number: 002-036-1967
2019 was a milestone year for Poul Winslow. It marked his 50th anniversary as a pipemaker since originally starting in Preben Holm's factory, but rather than resting on his laurels, Poul continues to deliver plenty of exciting pieces. His vast, impressive portfolio boasts wild, imaginative Freehands and creative takes on shape chart standards. For 2019's Pipe of the Year, Winslow has crafted robust, yet dynamic Cherrywood that showcases the Danish carver's five decades of experience. Unlike most Cherrywoods that feature upright, cylindrical bowls, Poul has opted to angle the flattened base and paneled the bowl. Said bowl displays a good bit of forward cant in profile and wears a series of eight crisp panels around its surface, working in tandem with the glossy rustication to offer an abundance of fascinating texture in hand. It sits stably on flat surfaces, perfect for proudly displaying this pipe in your collection and offering practicality for those who want a desk pipe with plenty of character. The inflated rim and flattened base have been left smooth for contrast, while the flashy silver band around the shank end provides further contrast and is a regal, tasteful addition to an already outstanding piece.- Jeffery Sitts
