Winslow: Smooth Bent Dublin (Private Collection)
Product Number: 002-036-2120
While Poul Winslow's creations are all held to the same high standards as far as shaping and engineering, only the best blocks of briar are selected for use in the Danish carver's Private Collection pieces. This offering certainly earned the prestigious appellation and is a whimsical bent Dublin interpretation, highlighting Poul's penchant for muscular proportions and making the bowl the focal point of the composition. The seamless, low-set transition emphasizes the towering bowl's visual prominence and all the magnificent grain that graces its flanks. Windswept flame grain rises with the bowl's flare, each tendril flowing upward to the plateau-crowned rim and made even more striking by the rich contrast stain. The innermost portion of the rim is chamfered, sloping inward to the deep tobacco chamber. Even more attractive grain can be admired along the shank-end with the exotic hardwood accent band while variegated acrylic tops the shank face.- Jeffery Sitts
