Winslow: Smooth Bent Pot (A)
Product Number: 002-036-2122
While the incorporation of plateau at the rim is much more noticeable, it's almost more striking when carvers orient it along the underside because of the subtlety and less common positioning. That's exactly what Poul Winslow has done with this bent Pot, with the plateau covering the bowl's entire heel. This is one of Winslow's more overtly Danish Fancy-inspired Freehand designs, hearkening back to the Danish carver's early years working alongside Preben Holm. A stunning array of windswept flame grain graces the bowl's broad flanks, perfectly oriented by Poul and dressed in a vivid contrast stain that gives the grain extra definition. The undulating rim is a playful accenting touch, while the robust shank continues the bowl's muscularity before kicking upward to meet the downturned stem.- Jeffery Sitts
