Winslow: Czar Smooth Bent Egg with Silver (11)
Product Number: 002-036-2144
Although the Czar line of pipes from Poul Winslow offers the same approximate shape, each is different as each is made by hand rather than fraised. The singular shape of the limited-edition series is influenced by Fabergé eggs, the elegant jeweled eggs that were produced in Russia during the late 19th century. This example is smooth and organic, with a tall bowl rising to a softly chamfered rim, which maintains the theme of soft curvature throughout the form. The transition is soft and introduces a shank of robust proportions that rises toward the stem and is fitted with a broad sterling silver accent band. The contrast stain is of a light chestnut hue and ably delineates the natural grain surrounding the bowl, and when joined by all the other professionally rendered elements of this composition helps present an overall form that reflects the 51 years of experience behind Poul's wonderful creations.- Chuck Stanion
