Winslow: Smooth Bent Apple (B) Tobacco Pipe

A gorgeous piece from Poul Winslow, this bent Apple is a brilliant lesson in the Danish school of shaping. Though there's only a hint of bend in the form, it's imbued with a deep sense of forward momentum, traveling through the wide transition and into the canted orientation and lifted heel of the bowl. The grain, then, echoes this dynamism as bands of flame grain flow the length of the shank along each flank before rising symmetrically up the bowl to wrap around its circumference. Poul has finished this piece exquisitely, highlighting the grain in a stunning contrast stain that captures the light wonderfully and showcases a dizzying display of birdseye along the underside.
