Winslow: Smooth Bent Apple with Silver (C) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-036-2493
Poul Winslow's shaping style is quite unique, featuring a great deal of Danish Fancy influence, though with a sense of line that's more in step with the Functionalist movement. This confluence can be seen here in this bent Apple, a pipe whose squat, compact stature makes it stylish and practical. A plump bowl holds the majority of the visual weight here, with its sides supple and bulged, and its peak and rim pushed upward thanks to a lifted heel. Said heel also features a panel, with a wrapping ridgeline framing it and the base around it, adding a touch of structure to the piece that is welcome amidst its otherwise soft build. A trim shank ebbs out of a wide, sweeping transition, terminating in a silver band at the shank end with a trim ring of black acrylic at its face, meeting the black saddle stem that flows out of it. A warm, vivid contrast stain dresses the stummel, revealing a striking veil of flame grain wrapping around the bowl, save fore the aft side which displays a swathe of birdseye that matches the underside and domed rim.
