Winslow: Smooth Billiard with Silver (D) Tobacco Pipe

Danish pipe maker Poul Winslow has been making pipes for decades, and this straight Billiard puts both his skill and penchant for gestural designs on full display. A tall bowl tapers gently from a well-rounded heel, and the shank boasts some extra muscularity as it stretches toward a broad fitment of sterling silver. The stem is jet black acrylic which has been stylized at the base to offer some contemporary styling in this otherwise reserved piece from Poul, with the separation between it and the stummel lending the aft side a good degree of firmness. While a variety of handsome grain patterns enliven the stummel, made unmissable under a bright contrast stain and smooth finish, this piece offers comfort in the hand thanks to its lovely curves.
