Winslow: Rusticated Paneled Billiard (E) Tobacco Pipe

Danish carver Poul Winslow's organic style is well represented by this Paneled Billiard, the curvature of the bowl nearly concealing the structure of the paneled facets on its flanks when viewed in profile, while a lithe stretch of shank and stem out back make the pipe easy to hold. A dark, earthy rustication dresses the stummel in texture, joining with the paneled motif to make for a strong in-hand presence. A multicolored accent at the shank end adds a dose of playful color, softening the composition somewhat by way lighter hues and contrasting colors.
