Winslow: Partially Rusticated Bent Dublin (EG) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-036-2718

With a career spanning over five decades, Poul Winsløw has become one of Denmark's most prolific carvers, getting his start in the workshop of Preben Holm, one of the fathers of the Danish Fancy style of carving. It's this style that's gone on to influence his workmanship as the years have passed, combining with the more reserved elements of Danish classicism to foster a unique aesthetic. This signature style comprises pieces that are often large and imposing, with firm ridges and fluting channels poised alongside softly rounded contours and gently flowing lines. This bent Dublin is a part of the carver's "EG" series, denoting pipes of a significantly larger size than his standard work, with this particular example coming in at over seven inches long. The bowl is strikingly large and sits at the end of a trim shank that's paired to a lithe stretch of jet-black saddle stem, the proportions here are positively neoclassical in appearance. A partial rustication dresses the stummel, seeing the shank receiving craggy texture, while the rest of the bowl wears a smoky, contrast rich stain that unveils a wealth of flame grain.
