Winslow: Rusticated Paneled Pot (E) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-036-2864
With a career spanning over five decades, Poul Winsløw has become one of Denmark's most prolific carvers, getting his start in the workshop of Preben Holm, one of the fathers of the Danish Fancy style of carving. It's this style that's gone on to influence his workmanship as the years have passed, combining with the more reserved elements of Danish classicism to foster a unique aesthetic. This signature style comprises pieces that are often large and imposing, with firm ridges and fluting channels poised alongside softly rounded contours and gently flowing lines. This Pot is well on the more reserved end of Winsløw's work, with a nicely rounded bowl balanced on the end of a sleek, straight shank and offset saddle stem combination. The heel is prominent and supports thick walls that build to a domed, smooth rim that offers textural contrast against the craggy rustication of the stummel, all paired to a jet-black stem that matches the stain of the briar nicely.
