Wojtek Pastuch: Sandblasted Seashell (1140) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-811-0087
Wojtek Pastuch is a Polish artisan with an incredibly diverse portfolio that ranges from sophisticated classics to more whimsical shapes. However, no matter what he crafts, Pastuch always imbues his pipes with a sense of character and personality, and that remains true for this unique Freehand. Aptly named the Seashell, this piece resembles the hinged shell of a mollusk, and if it weren't for stem and chamber, one wouldn't given it a second glance while walking along the beach. It forgoes the traditional shank and bowl arrangement, with the entirety of the stummel consisting of one hearty chuck of briar. A ridgeline wraps the circumference of the stummel, demarcating the top from the bottom and mirroring the seam that bridges the two halves of a shell together. The asymmetry of the shaping does well to imitate the organicism of a shell, and deep grooves are carved into the surface of the briar to further that visual motif. A light-depth sandblast dresses the stummel and offers a delightful texture for the fingers to explore. Unique and stylish, this piece is perfect for those who enjoy creative shapes, or just love the ocean.
