Yang Kun: Smooth Bent Dublin (U2417) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-905-0044
Yang Kun embarked on his pipe-making journey in 2012, transitioning from a successful career in film and television makeup after being inspired by the works of Sixten Ivarsson. Under the mentorship of master carver Hongjian Qiu, Kun honed his skills in the precision and craftsmanship of Danish-style pipe making. Today, his pipes are a striking fusion of classic Danish elegance and bold, innovative shaping. With a discerning eye for grain and an impeccable sense of proportion, Kun crafts pieces that are both technically flawless and visually captivating— modern, artistic, and distinctly his own.
A prime example of Yang Kun's exceptional craftsmanship, this bent Dublin embodies the compact muscularity that defines his signature style. The bowl features an expressively domed, neatly chamfered rim, accented by a crisp ridgeline that highlights the contrast between the bowl's flare and the soft curve of the rim. The transition is tight, lending a sense of fluidity to the design, leading to a thick, curling shank. The shank's broad, ovoid shape gradually flares with a lively, organic curve, culminating in a domed ring of polished briar that seamlessly connects to a softly bent black vulcanite saddle stem. The stummel is dressed in a warm stain, which beautifully highlights the flame grain that dances along the bowl's flanks, complemented by a sea of birdseye encircling the rim.
