Yuwei: Sandblasted Acorn with Juma
Product Number: 002-842-0026
Lengthy and rife with dynamic momentum, this Acorn from Yuwei Huang continues the Taiwanese artisan's appreciation for organically inclined shapes. The shank is particularly remarkable on this interpretation, flaring toward the shank-end and gradually tapering as it meets the bowl. Said bowl is certainly reminiscent of an Acorn, featuring a rim that's concave in its shaping and displaying a high-set waistline that gradually tapers down toward the pointed heel spur at its base. The transition sits low along the bowl, emphasizing the bowl's visual prominence and precise shaping. It's finished in a light-depth sandblast, with well-defined growth rings radiating from the heel spur and climbing the bowl's flanks.
The elongated shank flares out subtly to meet the pale accent ring that adorns the shank end. The decorative ring was crafted from juma, a high-grade, resin-based material known for its strength and durability. It's often used for knife handles and pen making, among other crafts, and is able to maintain a silky luster under any daily circumstances without oxidizing. It's used on this piece to great effect, providing some striking contrast in between the jet-black stem and the stummel's dark chocolate stain, elevating this organic design to greater heights.
