Yuwei: Smooth Bent Dublin with Ivorite
Product Number: 002-842-0041
There's always something interesting happening with the shank on a Yuwei Huang composition. They can dramatically taper or expand, and often terminate at the shank end with an interesting accent. Sometimes those shanks are bamboo, and he tends to choose specimens that themselves fit that theme, their rings expanding either forward or back. In the case of this Dublin, the shank tapers to a domed accent of Ivorite, which is nicely grained and offers visual contrast between the stummel and the mouthpiece. That taper is particularly emphasized by the abbreviated length of the shank and the generous curvature through the transition, that curve flowing gradually to the flanks and expanding conspicuously to the crisp edging of the outside of the rim. And that rim is itself spectacular, long and oval with a soft concavity around the tobacco chamber and positively packed with whirling birdseye. From the shank end to the transition, the profile assumes a Horn-like attitude, and then at the introduction of the bowl becomes more angular while the far flank continues the arc. The vertical grain is impressive as well, and those who find themselves attracted to the Dublin shape will especially enjoy the incredible style and grace permeating every line and element of this stunning pipe.- Chuck Stanion
