Yuwei: Smooth Tomato with Spalted Tamarind Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-842-0057
Taiwanese artisan Yuwei Huang takes inspiration from the Danish and American schools of pipe design, producing pieces that are at once muscular and curvaceous. This Tomato elegantly showcases his distinctive style, its gentle contours and gestural poise immediately capturing the eye. As is typical for the form, the bowl here boasts a wide stance and a pronounced upward taper, with the broad rim ballooning out at the lifted heel. Said heel lends a touch of dynamism to the bowl's posture, thrusting it forward and outward, while the shank-and-stem arrangement strikes an opposing trajectory.
The trim shank exits the low-set transition and tapers subtly into a gorgeous accent of spalted tamarind, which quickly gives way to a demurely curved mouthpiece of jet-black vulcanite. The tamarind's pale wooden tones are striated by streaks of black, adding a touch of vibrancy to the shape's silhouette and acting as a natural bridge between the stummel's auburn complexion and the stem's shadowy coloration. A glossy smooth finish dresses the stummel and reveals a wealth of handsome grain throughout the stummel, with flame circling the bowl and birdseye peppering the rim and underside.
