Yuwei: Smooth Bent Dublin with Spalted Tamarind Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-842-0058
Taiwanese artisan Yuwei Huang takes inspiration from the Danish and American schools of pipe design, producing pieces that are at once muscular and curvaceous. This bent Dublin elegantly showcases his distinctive style, its gentle contours and gestural poise immediately capture the eye. As is typical for Huang, the bowl here boasts a wide stance and a pronounced upward taper, with the broad rim ballooning out at the lifted heel. Said heel lends a touch of dynamism to the bowl's posture thanks to a defined transition rendered in a stark ridgeline around the heel, while the shank-and-stem arrangement strikes an opposing trajectory. Said shank is gently curved, mostly composed of a pale accent of spalted tamarind, adding a touch of contrast and organicism. Out back, an expertly hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem offers an effortless clench, as well as extra sleekness to the composition. Dressed in a rich walnut finish, the stummel boasts impeccable flame grain around the bowl, elegantly contrasted by a craggy plateau rim.
