Yuwei: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-842-0071
Yuwei Huang is a talented artisan pipe maker from Taiwan whose journey began in 2015 with a simple, self-made pipe. What started as a personal project quickly evolved into a deep passion for the craft. Drawing inspiration from the Danish school of design and legendary figures such as Bo Nordh, Jess Chonowitsch, and Lars Ivarsson, Yuwei blends classic form with contemporary nuance. His work reflects a thoughtful balance of aesthetics and engineering, resulting in pipes that are as visually compelling as they are functionally refined.
This bent Apple by Yuwei Huang is a beautiful synthesis of Danish-inspired shaping and meticulous craftsmanship, showcasing the artisan's keen eye for proportion, flow, and grain orientation. The bowl is nearly spherical, plump, and gently forward-canted. The bowl's soft curves are accentuated by a dramatically cheeked transition, which adds visual tension between the bowl and flaring shank, highlighting the sleek undercurve of this piece as it flows throughout the composition. A boxwood accent caps the shank, lending a touch of warmth before it leads into the domed shoulder of the bent stem, crafted of black and white brindled vulcanite. Dressing the stummel is an auburn stain and light sandblast, highlighting stacked growth rings along the bowl's flanks.
