Mac Baren - Dark Twist 3.5oz
A Bad Tin?
50 years ago, this was my favorite tobacco, but this latest tin is nothing like it. There is almost no Cavendish in the stuff. If I pick through it and pack a bowl with something like the old proportions, it's good - just like the old stuff. But right out of the tin, it's rather unpleasant. Maybe this is a bad tin, or maybe MacBarens has changed the formula - either way, it would be nice if we could buy the MB Cavendish to add and make up the deficit. As it is, I may end up pitching the whole tin.

Missouri Meerschaum - Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
Good Pipe, but Stinks
I like this pipe, smokes well and the bowl is attractively finished. The only problem is that the finish - some king of plastic resin, perhaps - produces a chemical odor when it warms up, one which intermittently intrudes into the flavor of the tobacco. Aromatic smokers may not notice this, but it is very obvious when smoking non-aromatics. The good news is that the effect fades out and goes away after maybe 10 or 12 smokes.

Cornell & Diehl - Poplar Camp
Perique a little overdone
Greatly improved by the addition of some straight Virginia - 25 to 50 percent. With that done, a solid 5 stars. Very tasty, the stuff of dreams.

Low Country - Natural Virginia & Burley
If you want to cut back, this is your blend
Passable for the first 10 minutes, after that, sickening.
