Mac Baren - Plumcake 3.5oz
I love Plumcake. I'm a big advocate. This tremendous tobacco saved a beloved meerschaum for me. Dang pipe, like many, decided it didn't like anything for a spell. Couldn't get it to smoke any tobacco well, not even old favorites. Plumcake saved that pipe, and no other tobacco could do that. Plumcake opened that finicky pipe right up, and that pipe went back to smoking other tobaccos well again. Plumcake and this pipe went strangely hand in hand. It was seriously like two old friends reuniting - I swear that the previous owner must have smoked this very tobacco before me. It was such a perfect match. That is my story with Plumcake. Pipe saver. Smell out of the tin is greatness. I needed something sweetish, yet serious and Plumcake rocked my world; nice, mild desert mix. Again, smell out of the tin is one of the best. I never get that fabled bite from this company, so I would like to dispel that urban legend, please. Mac bite is an urban legend. You're smoking too fast! I, personally, have had nothing but tremendous luck from any Mac Baren's, and I find that they are probably my favorite maker aside from Dunhill. So I love Mac Baren a lot,and Plumcake is a pipe saver, which should be commended. Also, tasty as hell, and did I mention smells great out of the tin? This is not only a great Mac B., but also a Classic tobacco. This tobacco has been beloved since the '50's, and it's easy to see why. Delicious, yummy baccy with a good personality. I've never met a Mac Baren that I didn't like, and Plumcake is no exception. A delicious Classic. Love the stuff. Thank you. A+
Orlik - Golden Sliced 50g
This tobacco is absolutely perfect. Orlik is like an old, dear friend or slipping into some comfy clothes. I prefer the smaller tin, which is probably mental - but it just tastes better to me this way. This tobacco has saved angry pipes who didn't like anything, and broken in some new pipes excellently. A standard; a classic. So terrific when your pipe aquires a taste for it after a few bowls. I cannot state enough how beloved Orlik Golden Sliced is. It is as perfect of a flake as one can hope for. A+
Dan Tobacco - Devil's Holiday 50g
I'm definitely one of those lovers of this unique aromatic tobacco. I always have trouble finding aromatics that are classy and quality. I just like having a couple on hand for when the mood strikes, so I am very particular about what I invest in. Devil's Holiday is pitch (fork) perfect for my palette, and it is unlike any other I have tried. Yes, berry; yes, premium tobacco...but what you don't hear is how sinfully decadent it makes your pipe smell and taste. It's like how those chocolate dipped cherries smell. Just fantastic. I definitely recommend picking a dedicated pipe for this one, as it may ghost - but that is one marvelously wicked ghost. I love what my dedicated pipe smells like, and my pipe bag, too. Absolutely a huge advocate of Devil's Holiday. Truly one of a kind, and a sure bet for someone who is looking for just one or two aros to have on hand. Great tobacco. A+
Dunhill - 5 Choice Blends
What is there to say? Dunhill quality in a terrific bundle package. Great way to sample some blends you may have been eyeing. A superlative collection for Dunhill lovers. These are all smashing, classy tobaccos. A great offer.
Stanwell - Melange 50g
I have three particular pipes who are in love with this. GBD, MM cob and a Peterson 80s. GBD personality says it likes aromatics, but only likes a blend once, then shrugs it off. With Melange, the pipe smiles each time. With the MM, the cob's sweetness goes hand in hand with this Stanwell treasure; they totally compliment one another. Finally, I Christened a new Peterson with it, and that pipe was crazy about it too. Took to this tobacco like a fish to water. Melange is a much requested sunny day as far as my pipes are concerned. The sweet-tooth pipes demand it, and it's lovely for breaking in a newbie. Great tobacco; a groundstone.
Seattle Pipe Club - Deception Pass 2oz
This is a provocative tobacco that is appropriate for long nights of pondering. Good for a fire or campfire, time with a good book or long movie, and conversations with good friends. Deception Pass really starts to talk and reveal its true colors right about 1/4 in; toward mid-bowl. Very rich in character and intriguing, like someone you've met and suddenly you find that you have something very personal in common with. A fine smoke and good companion - especially for introspection or flights of spirit and imagination.
Sutliff - R-Blend 1.5oz
Sadly, R-Blend has been discontinued. That is a sad loss; this was my very favorite of the Sutliffs that I tried. I think it was a bad decision on their part. This was a really good tobacco. Nevertheless, here is my original A+ review: R-Blend is a terrific smoke. It has an adult flavor that seems somehow spiritually familiar, like you're tapping into a past life, or making some profound connection with your forefathers...hard to describe. But nonetheless, this R-Blend seems to fit like an old familiar shoe, or a comfy chair. Nice, refined bite -not too much, and just enough- and just plain old tobacco goodness without too many aromatics. This wonderful blend shows off the tobaccos, based on their own accords - and boy, do they shine. A seriously yummy smoke that you can focus on with delight, and space off with for a while and come back to the smoke and be in just as good of hands as you were when you zoned off. Easy to see why Einstein was fond of this - it's a quality roamer. Beautifully done. A+
