Peterson - Signature Flake 100g
A home run
As a Virginia flake smoker this is a real home run . It compares very favorably with F & T fo0lded flakes and that says a lot . Beautifully presented with a perfect moisture level , this blond folded flake invites one simply to look at it a while . The tin note is very inviting , one can denote the slightest casing , maybe citrus .The burn is perfect and the taste is subtle , requiring slow smoking .If you like folded flakes , this is among the best .

Davidoff - Scottish Mixture 50g
An experience
Hoot man , if ye hanker for a wee bit of spice out of the moors this is the brew for you . Not exactly what we would call a Scottish mixture but it will warm you under the kilt . Good cut and moisture , have a wee dram before ye smoke it .

Cornell & Diehl - Interlude 2oz
a decent virginia choice
A good deal like Manhattan Afternoon , this is a very decent Virginia flake . The moisture level is right and the tin note is pleasing . A really good outdoor smoke this is a very nice C & D offering.

Wessex - Brigade Sovereign Curly Cut 50g
Not up to grade
The weakest Wessex offering in my opinion . Looks like Three Nuns but it does have some perique . If you want this type of smoke there are better choices , especially the Davidoff flake medalions and the Dunhill rolled . Still , not the worst smoke you can have if you have some.

Wessex - Brown Virginia Flake 50g
Unique taste
This is a good alternative to F & T Special Brown Flake , both made by K & K . Very good use of a matured Virginia , this is real tasty . Good for the evening after a big meal . One of the stronger folded flakes but very well done.

Wessex - Gold Virginia Flake 50g
a decent virginia choice
A little more bland than the other folded flakes , Wessex Gold is a nice choice for a mild Virginia smoke . A slight citrus taste and a good burn are it's hallmarks . This is also a good Virginia mixer to provide some kindling for Samuel Gawarth . An excellent first pipe of the day too.

Dunhill - Ready Rubbed 50g
Where is the beef?
Look Ma , no taste . I mean none.

Dunhill - Three Year Matured 50g
Not the old stuff
The old made by Dunhill was a really unique blend . This re-issue is way over perfumed. It reminds me of certain sporting houses near Paris . Casing is one thing , perfuming is another . The idea of 3 year was the natural taste of matured Virginias , this is very far from that.

McClelland - Ashton Revival: Brindle Flake 50g
Very good blend
A fine example of McClelland's superb quality of Virginia . The skillful blending and the absolute best Virginias combine to make this a real stand out , even among Mc Clellands already great Virginias . An excellent choice for an early morning smoke .

Rattray's - Macbeth 100g
The jury is out
This tobacco has little taste on it's own . There is a topping which detracts from the taste of pure Virginia . I used my can for blending which it is good for . I'm thinking that might be it's only use but if you want a really light Virginia you might like it .

Rattray's - Marlin Flake 100g
great blend
I like the K & K reissue even better than the old house made Ratrays Marlin flake . The long cut flake has a great burn and is really tangy . Really good when you are in the mood for something different . A little milder than the original but they really got this blend right on the re-issue.

A & C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
A good reissue
This blend compares well with the original Escudo that I smoked in the 1960,s . It uses the perique in the right way , it adds to the taste but does not knock your sox off . I compared a 30 year old can with this new one and it showed very well when compared . An example of a re-issue that they really god right , maybe even better.

Astley's - No. 2 Mixture 50g
Good experience
This is a Virginia forward blend with a light perique . The cut is stringy , almost a shag which many smokers enjoy . This is really nice if you want a light hit of perique.

Solani - Silver Label - 660 100g
A nice job of blending
This is the best use of dark fried that I have seen . The long cut flakes burn well and the taste is really unique . Most dark fried blends are way over done , this one got it right.

Three Nuns - Three Nuns 1.75oz
not every try works
This is clearly nothing like the old Three Nuns . Bland and tasteless with no perique . Not even worth a nun and a half.

Samuel Gawith - Best Brown Flake 50g
a top virginia
If you can get through the moisture problem this is one of the best flakes you will ever have . Try mixing it with a neutral Virginia like Newminster flake so you can light it . The tobacco is high quality and very well blended .

Cornell & Diehl - Manhattan Afternoon 2oz
a decent virginia choice
Not bad for a C % D , about the best Virginia they make , the honey is not over done and the cut is good . This is a good choice when you fell like something a little different .

Fribourg & Treyer - Special Brown Flake 50g
Back in the navy
This is exactly what I imagine was smoked in the British navy in the sail days . The rum has a subtle but real presence and the tobacco packs and burns well . one of the finest examples of casing that I have seen.

Fribourg & Treyer - Cut Blended Plug 50g
Really good smoke
K & K has another winner with this fine flake . Subtle and fruity , this packs well and burns very nicely . A great morning smoke it also works well out of doors

Dunhill - My Mixture BB1938 50g
Like old times
This is the first and only Dunhill on the market today that looks , feels , smells and tastes like the old Dunhill before 1983. Simply a really over the top English blend . Enjoy it

Astley's - No. 109 Medium Flake 50g
A special case
This is quite simply the best tobacco to smoke when you want a really full Va flake . Strong but really delicate in it's own way . The ideas tobacco for walking the dog on a cold winter night in new York . The dog loved it too .

Cornell & Diehl - Blockade Runner 2oz
way over done
You might want to add a little tobacco to the rum

Butera - Royal Vintage: Golden Cake 50g
a top virginia
This is a real sleeper , no one knows about it . This high quality Virginia simply does not quit .Forget the vinegar stuff , it's not true

McClelland - GKCPC: Boston 1776 50g
a top virginia
Another Mike and Mary masterpiece that shows off the smoking qualities of the best Virginias available ever

McClelland - Collector: Tudor Castle 50g
A top bland
This might the best VaPer that I ever smoked and I've smoked them all

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - 1931 Flake 3.5oz
sorry folks
If you like Mac Baren's navy flake and don't mind paying more for it this is the tobacco for you

Dan Tobacco - Tordenskjold Virginia Slices 50g
a top virginia
Although this is a real good flake it becomes a great slake if you let it age a few years . I found a few cans that I had misplaced for about 4 years and WOW

Cornell & Diehl - First Responders 2oz
sorry folks
This might be the worst tobacco that I have even smoked

Fribourg & Treyer - Cut Virginia Plug 50g
a top virginia
If I was alone on a deserted island with some nice pipes but could only chose one tobacco , this is the one that I would smoke

Wessex - Brigade Classic Virginia 50g
all day smoke
This is a really unique tobacco , a Va that you can really smoke all day . The great taste of Virginia with a nice broken flake cut delivered with perfect moisture level . The only tobacco like it is Mc Clelland's 2010
