Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Gold
Hidden Gem
I was fascinated by the gold color. It looks so different than anything else and not a lot of discussion about this blend. What a surprise. Great feel, just dry enough for a good smoke. Pouch smell was tobacco and mild sweetness. Great shag cut, packs easy and smokes down to the bottom of the bowl. Smooth, mild, yet full flavored and satisfying. It's naturally sweet, but not overly so. No casing. Nice long finish on the palate of grass, tobacco, hay, and some kind of spice. Burns a bit hot. Great stuff.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Bob's Chocolate Flake
Soap
As a novice pipe smoker of 3 years, I had to try this. And as I was told I got a big dose of the 'Lakeland Aroma', a floral taste that is more akin to licking a bar of Zest soap. The soapy taste popped up throughout the bowl. I could taste no chocolate. I didn't hate this blend like some do. But I have no idea why it's called Chocolate flake. A complex, high quality tobacco for sure but a taste that needs to be acquired.

Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake 50g
It's a Virginia
I love Virginia tobacco but I also love complexity and interest which this tobacco doesn't have. It reminded me of cigarette smoke and the room odor was the same. It's ok as far as Virginia's go, nothing too distinct here. Single note. Great quality tobacco for you straight Virginia lovers. I prefer a little more complexity like Reiner LGF or Solani Silver Flake.

Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Good mellow smoke
Rich and satisfying while still providing a good salty Latakia fix in a smooth, mellow, smoke. The Virginia's help mellow this out a bit and provide some contrast. I didn't find myself falling in love with this blend but I did crave it until it was gone. Burned and packed well.

Orlik - Golden Sliced 100g
Not real complex
It's a straight up Va. It's fragrance and taste is of grass, like a fresh cut field. Hints of citrus come to play here and there. But it is single note on the palette and a bit thin and uninteresting. There are better Va. blends to be had like Reiner LGF and Solani Silver Flake.

Solani - Silver Label - 660 100g
Love this tobac
I love Virginia blends and this is my favorite. It's a close race between this and Reiner LGF. Tin smell is full of fresh cut grass, fig, and citrus. It smokes rich and full. It's complex with a long satisfying finish. You taste the grassy, herbal quality of the Va. with the rich earthiness of Kentucky dark fired tobacco in the center. Just a hint of citrus here and there throughout the bowl giving it a clean refreshing flavor with the right amount of natural sweetness. It can burn hot if you smoke too hard, which is easy to do because it tastes very good. Of course, this stuff is even better after you age it for awhile.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kentucky Nougat
Kentucky Nougat, sweet and mild
Think Captain's Black with more flavor. The tobacco is high quality. Packs easy and stays lit through the whole bowl if you are trying for that. I taste no nougat more of a cherry flavor. Very mild and sweet, yet still satisfying. You could smoke this all day.
