Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Morning Blend
My favorite mixture
This mixture is mellow and mild with a subtle hint of vanilla. The bourbon flavor is there but it is illusive. The mixture doesn't bite at all and smokes down to a dry gray ash rather than a black goopy mess as some aromatics do.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - American Blend Whisky
This stuff is so saturated with chemicals you could leave it on a rock in the desert for years and it would never dry sufficiently to smoke.
Reiner - Blend No. 71 100g
This is similar to Orlik Golden Sliced but very much better. It has a richer, more complex flavor. It is slightly expensive but worth the price.
Mac Baren - Symphony
Don't bother trying it.
This stuff has no flavor or aroma. Smoking it is like drawing hot air through your pipe.
Mac Baren - Plumcake 16oz
This would be my "all-day" mixture if it didn't have a slight bite. It is slightly rich and a bit sweet. It is balanced in the sense it isn't too harsh or too mild.
Peter Stokkebye - PS2 Whiskey
Great all-day mixture
This stuff fills all my criteria for an "all day" mixture. It's mild and smokes cool and dry without any bite. It has a pleasant room note and, although I can't taste any whiskey in it, I don't taste any chemicals such as propylene glycol either.
McConnell - Oriental 50g
I can't detect Latakia in this mixture so I would call it a Balkan rather than an English blend. If you like English blends but don't want a Lat bomb this might be just the stuff for you. It can be harsh if it isn't smoked very slowly but it is complex and rich if smoked properly.
Amphora - Full Aroma 1.75oz
I was skeptical that MacBaren's version would be as good as the original but it is. It is my favorite aromatic and my wife actually likes the aroma.
Carter Hall - Carter Hall 14oz
Carter Hall has a fig/raisin smell in the pouch and a slight coffee/whiskey/chocolate flavor. It has a rich, slightly sweet room note that nearly everyone likes. It's very mild and doesn't bite so it makes an excellent all-day smoke. It would be perfect if it had a bit less propylene glycol (PG).
