DR. SCOTT

A & C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
Smoke It Dry
Great VaPer. Even better if you can wait a few years before opening the tin. And best when allowed to dry out. The last few coins are always the best!

McClelland - Grand Orientals: Drama Reserve 50g
All Natural Goodness
DR is typical of the Grand Oriental Series: very mild aged Virginias with just enough Oriental to give you a taste of the namesake variety. Drama Reserve is so mild that it must be sipped slowly to taste the subtle addition of Oriental leaf. No added flavors here, just a very mild but very enjoyable Virginia blend. One of my all time favorites, alongside the stronger Presbyterian and Penzance.

Dunhill - Standard Mixture Mellow 50g
Light English
If you want to know what is meant by "light English," this is it. Not too much Latakia. Can be smoked all-day. Two stars.

Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Good 'Light' English Blend
Better than Standard Mixture Mellow. Better, and lighter, than the London Mixture. A good all-day English. 3 and 1/2 stars.

Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Good 'Light' English Blend
Better than Standard Mixture Mellow. Better, and lighter, than the London Mixture. A good all-day English.

Captain Earle's - Honor Blend 2oz
No Crumble in this Cake
Appears to be a ribbon cut blend pressed into a plug. Does not crumble easily, but needs a sharp knife. Nicotine is on the high side of medium. Flavor is OK, but just OK.

Balkan Sasieni - Balkan Sasieni 50g
Not Recommended
I normally prefer Virginias, VaPers, light English and Oriental blends. I found this to be very bland, lacking substance or body. The room note was unpleasant. The mixture seems to rely heavily on casing.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Kentucky
Strong Stuff
A little Virginia would take the edge off this stuff. (See Dark Birdseye.) Huge nicotine dose. Worth a try, but don't expect anything other than dark fired Kentucky with just a hint of Lakeland essence.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Twist
Awesome Stuff
All the pleasure of Happy Brown Bogie without the work of slicing and rubbing.

Tampers & Tools - Czech Pipe Tool
Don't bother.
Spend a little more and get a proper pipe knife. The reamer or pick is too short to be useful. The tamper has too small a surface area. The spoon is no good for scraping.

Tampers & Tools - Pipe Nail
Essential
At this price, you won't worry about losing one or breaking another. Even if you almost never use it, there should be one in your glove box, tool bag, or desk drawer: an essential part of the emergency pipe kit. Buy five or six.

Samuel Gawith - Skiff Mixture 50g
My Holy Grail?
This is a very sweet Oriental blend. The Latakia stays where it should, in the background. It gets better with age, great after five years. It is my "desert island" blend. If a tsunami were coming, this is what I would save before anything else in my cellar.

Presbyterian - Presbyterian 50g
Wife-Approved
My wife asked that this be my regular smoke. At first, I didn't care for it. I smoke regular stuff, like Escudo. PM is all flowery and sweet and funny tasting with all those Orientals. But by the end of my first ounce, I was sold. I am now devoted to this blend. It is in my top four rotation, and I always keep a tin open. And bystanders love it too.

G. L. Pease - Chelsea Morning 2oz
Good English Blend
Could be an everyday, all-day English for some. Worth your money and your time.

G. L. Pease - Cumberland 2oz
An American Classic
This is what Granny had in her corncob pipe. Well, maybe with a G.L. Pease California twist... But seriously, this transports this Southern boy back to the Cumberland plateau. Tin description is accurate, I think. Need a dictionary for those big words.

McClelland - Collector: Aurora 50g
A Simple Pleasure
The critics say it is bland or boring. My experience is a little glimpse of heaven in a simple Virginia ribbon. Sip it slowly. Savor the sweetness. Not complex. Not savory. Not an English blend. Not a nic hit. Simply heavenly.

G. L. Pease - Fillmore 2oz
Outstanding VaPer
Only Escudo ranks higher for me among VaPers. I plan to put some away for a few years, betting that with age it will be even better.

G. L. Pease - JackKnife Plug 2oz
Pease's Best
I've been fortunate to try a lot of GLP blends. This is my favorite. The nicotine dose is generous. The flavor is just right. Try loading up with small cubes diced to about 1/8 inch or less.

Peterson - 3 P's Peterson's Perfect Plug 50g
Best Virginia-Burley
Great plug! Strong but smooth, with true nutty Burley flavor balanced by Virginias.

A & C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
Best VaPer
The best VaPer out there, and I've tried them all. Only negative is that it dries fast, so smoke it quickly or put it in a jar.

Dan Tobacco - Tordenskjold Virginia Slices 50g
Super Mild Virginia
Super mild, and a super blend, if mild is what you are after. Great first pipe of the morning. Mild honey flavored casing. Maybe the best thing out there for novices. Like light beer for Virginia lovers. Tastes great, but less filling.

Rattray's - Hal O' The Wynd 100g
Too much sauce
Everything from this German blender tastes like honey. I prefer less of the casing.

G. L. Pease - Union Square 2oz
Strong Stuff
I recommend a year, not a month, of age for this one. When fresh, it tastes green. The more age the better. I found the overall taste to be mild Virginia. The nicotine, however, that was a killer buzz!
