HU - Louisiana Broken 100g
A blend for any occassion
This is blend that sounded right up my alley so when I heard HU was coming out I knew this would be the first one I had to get. This blend is vibrant enough to throw in a cob and puff away with each component having its moment to grab your attention. This blend is also great if you want to sit and pay attention to it. It is worth the time to sit with it and take your time. While each component provides its typical notes the sweet and tangy fruits from the Virginia's the plummy spice from the perique and the woodsy smokiness from the Kentucky are all there. There is also a really interesting creaminess that comes through almost more similar to a cigar creaminess than I have found in other similar blends. I hope once things settle down to cellar this deep and see what changes can come through with a little age on this
HU - Director's Cut 100g
Amazing blend
This blend has alot to offer. Through the bowl each of the components will have their time to shine. There are times the perique comes through with its spice and the Virginia's with the fruitiness we all enjoy. The burley and Kentucky really compliment the bowl through out the smokiness along with the nutty almost cocoa flavor from the burley really keep the blend dynamic. I did get a few floral notes throughout the first half which was surprising since I normally associate that with Orientals. I did notice a hint of what might be a coffee note once in a while. This is a blend that will hold your attention through the whole bowl and keeps each puff interesting
Cobblestone - Outdoors Hiking 1.75oz
Easily an all day smoke
I had to come back and check the tobaccos in this blend given the depth and complexity the smoke throughout the bowl. Opening the tin there is a nice tangy note but not vinegary nuttiness cocoa and a molasses sweetness. Smoking through the bowl pockets of each flavor come forward and then recede a touch of raisin breadiness along with the tang and cocoa and molasses and a touch of earthiness. As someone who is not the biggest burley fan this could easily be a blend I reach for once a day. I will definitely be getting more I would be really interested to see how this might change with a little age on it. The moisture content in my tin was almost perfect, just rubbed out the flake and it smoked well I'll try a little drying time on the next bowl just to see if it changes anything.
Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake 2oz
Surpringly complex
For just a mixture of different red Virginia's this blend brings alot to the table. The lower sugar content on these years crops had me surprised at times when I felt like I was tasting powdered sugar. Some of the bowl felt like a nice spice element was in there with bread notes and fruits. Overall it's great fresh but I can't wait to see how this ages in the coming years.
McConnell - Folded Flake 50g
New Favorite flake
Reading the description with Virginia's Perique and Kentucky I knew I would like the blend. When I opened the tin I could tell this would be right up my alley dark fruit notes and just a touch of the bbq vinegar note that I enjoy. The moisture in my tin was perfect and the flakes rubbed out really easily. Smokes really well with a good amount of sweetness and just enough spice to keep your attention without melting your face. I think this might be my new go to flake.
Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear Black Locust 2oz
Balanced blend
Got a few of the 2024 release and I was a little shocked with how much I enjoyed the blend. I normally enjoy more of a tangy or tart Virginia blend so going into this blend with such a emphasis on the honey note I was a little hesitant. Well I should have ordered a few more tins. This blend is really balanced between the honey sweetness and bright Virginia's. The Orientals give just enough spice to keep the blend dynamic through the bowl. The smoking cadence really gives different notes as well with a slower cadence giving more honey notes while a quicker cadence brings out the different spice notes of the Orientals. Really great blend.
Caldwell Cigar Company - Long Live The Queen Maduro Wild Card
Best release of the year
Loved the original Long Live the Queen especially since I am partial to Cameroon wrappers. I was a little hesitant with the switch to the San Andreas but since I loved the original blend so much figured I would give this a go. The flavors were amazing with lots of subtleties to compliment the new wrapper. This cigar should have your full attention otherwise you might miss alot of the qualities that make it so enjoyable. The construction and burn were flawless never requiring even a minor touch up which is always impressive on a box press. This has been the best cigar release this year in my opinion and so far still seems to be flying under the radar. The shipping and handling were Impeccable and everything came in great condition. All around amazing experience.
Cornell & Diehl - Awakened Elder 2oz
An English Halloween
Awakened Elder is becoming my go to English blend. With the wearher getting cooler and Halloween approaching I've been reaching for my jar of this almost every night. The addition of the Kasturi really adds a new dimension to what would otherwise still be a great English blend. The Katsuri bringing the sweet spiciness really makes for a dynamic smoke through the bowl especially in the cooler weather.
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust - Mi Querida Black SakaKhan
Amazing cigar
This is an amazing cigar from light up until the nub. It is a long cigar with a slow burn it is extremely well packed so when you smoke it settle in for a long experience. It was just around 2 and half hours but a great experience all the way through. This would make a great after dinner cigar lots of sweet cocoa and caramel notes with just enough baking spice to keep it interesting. Really solid transitions through each third keep you interested. This is not a cigar for a quick burn down though this is a cigar that is worth the time and attention to really enjoy it.The cigar was sent quick and in perfect condition with a great experience from the company as always.
Cornell & Diehl - Eight State Burley 2oz
Wish I got more
I'm not the biggest burley fan but this blend has been in a regular rotation since I purchased it. The topping is very complimentary to the blend and I really enjoy the way it transitions through the bowl. It packs and burns really well especially with a steady cadence. With the weather turning cool I'm reaching for my jars of Eight State more and more and I really wish I had gotten more when it was available.
