Surprisingly smooth
First off, I’d call these plugs and not cakes (Kakes) as they are far more dense and compacted than C&D typical Kakes. Tin note is of creosote and campfire. It’s a tough plug and it takes a little work to cut/tear n crumble it up a bit. Burns low and slow, making an exceptionally smooth smoking experience. Taste is creosote and campfire. I really enjoy it. Creamy smooth smoke, you get the tang of the orientals, a hint of sweetness from the red Virginia, and a wonderful smoky creosote-like after taste. Flavor gets stronger as you go but never became too much. I am loving this.

Something special here
Sweet red and deep/dark Virginia bready flavor with Perique spice and figgy undertones. Cake(kake) is gorgeous deep brown & breaks/tears and packs easily. Moisture out of tin is always perfect. Smokes easily and fully. Simple perfection.

Light and sweet
Beautiful C&D flakes (typical broken flake) of lemony yellow & orange with hints of black. Smell is of citrusy hay with that oriental tang. Smokes great. Light, sweet, hints of citrus, hay and fig. The Virginia and orientals really shine and the Perique is pretty sparse but t plays its part. Overall, a nice blend and I’ll grab a few tins to age but this won’t go on my regular rotation Bright Virginias can bite me but this didn’t

Made me a believer
Ok- my first few experiences with Virginia tobaccos lead me to terrible tongue bite. I tried 3 different Virginia blends from MacBaren. I thought I couldn’t smoke Virginias. Then I tried Briar Fox, no issue. Then I tried Black Frigate… no bite…. Blockade Runner…. No bite I dunno what MacBaren does to their tobacco but I don’t like it. Oh this tobacco? Epic- tastes of raisins and bread. This is remarkably smooth, sweet and fresh tasting. Nice spice, sweetness and flavor. Just grab a few sticks gently roll and stuff em This is going into my regulars: Briar Fox- 5 O’Clock Shadow- Black Frigate- Bow Legged Bear and Midnight Drive.

Very nice
A great blend of rum soaked Virginia with a bit of Turkish & Latakia and what a blend! Love from first smell and first taste had me lusting for more. The rum doesn’t over power the rum adds to the experience. A nice sweet and smokey experience. Easily in my top 5 of C&D cake tobaccos (so far) I am on a mission to try every cake (kake) tobacco.

Lovely
A nice and surprisingly mellow smoke, considering dark- fired Kentucky can be over bearing. Smooth and clean taste that slowly gets spicier. It’s Kajun Kake with a lil’ kick. This is quite nice, mellow, balanced and smooth. Burns completely and well through the bowl.

Oh c’mon- just restocked and out
Weird. Got restocked e-mail checked a few hours later and was sold out! I signed up for notification again and the next day got notified it was back. I was able to grab 2 16oz bricks!😉 This stuff is soooooo good! It’s so underwhelming but somehow just so perfect. Light and smooth, sweet and subtle I went from initially not really liking this to thinking it is the perfect smoke. I am such a C&D fanboy. All their cake or kake tobaccos are just so good.

Cornell & Diehl - Midnight Drive 2oz
Perique bomb?!
Very rich and dark slightly sweet. Very spicy. Virginias undetectable, Latakia is always present, can taste hints of the Turkish but the burley and cavendish… I can’t pick em out. Is mostly smokey spice with hints of sweetness, I catch the Turkish as aftertaste. Not bad, not great, unless it grows on me. Will update further into the tin. After tin aged and dried naturally, much of the deep stoved flavors that were overwhelming before were now in better balance. It’s really surprising what just a week of age will do to the flavors. Still though…. I think there are better options for my C&D English fix (Bow-Legged Bear) So, it’s. Fine smoke, it’s pretty good but nothing extraordinary or stand out.

Cornell & Diehl - Golden Ash
Clean tobacco goodness
A wonderful blend of burley and virginia. Taste is clean, nutty straw with a hint of campfire smoke. I find this similar to Briar Fox but with a lovely smokiness from the Latakia. Burns clean and completely, leaving only gray ash. This will definitely be 1 of my regulars.

Cornell & Diehl - Bow-Legged Bear 2oz
Excellent English
This tastes very close (to me anyway) Father Dempsey but just a bit bolder from the burley and that stoving process. It tastes, earthy, dark n fermented through the whole bowl. I have loved every cake tobacco from C&D. RedBurn -Night Train -Briar Fox -Pirate Kake Top quality tasty full flavored but yummy smooth blends. Kudos C&D I’m a fanboy

SMOOTH
Strong Latakia flavor, underneath you have the slightest hint of nuttiness with an incense stick. This is smooth and creamy. Cream of leather soup? Rawhide shavings? I got it! I know this flavor, the Latakia/Turkish tobaccos has a perfume-like flavor that is Lavender and Earl Grey tea!!!!!!tastes like a London Fog!!!! This blend is strong but easy going. Nice retrohale, mildly spicy near end of bowl. If you like Latakia, I have no idea why you wouldn’t love this. Now that I noticed the Earl grey tea- like flavors, that’s just all I can taste, a wonderful London Fog! So good

Cornell & Diehl - Night Train 2oz
I’m on the Night Train
Love from first smell. Lemony, citrus, and sourdough bread. Flavor was wonderful! Bright lemony, citrus Virginia on top of a mild nutty burley. Flavor deepens as you smoke and the burley becomes deeper but the lemony, citrus hints of the brights, they stay through the whole bowl. The perique is noticeable nearing halfway through the bowl, mostly felt on retrohale. An excellent tobacco. I’m getting a 16oz. Brick! Smoke this in a church warden!!! Smoking this in my Roma 7125 Churchwarden, the citrus flavors were more pronounced. Very mellow and smooth. The key to this tobacco is age. It can be rough when fresh but get about 8 months of age and it really mellows out.

Cornell & Diehl - Redburn 2oz
Best aromatic ever?
Read Old Timers review, he nailed it. Dark, Sweet, Molasses, Spice,Dark Rum. This will always be in my rotation along with Father Dempsey, Haunted Bookshop and Epiphany. Ok so I bought a 16oz. And it’s been aging in a sealed jar for about a year now and when I opened the jar, it smells like grape kool aid. No joke. Taste was way more mellow and I swear, it does have a grape kool aid like flavor on the lips after a few exhales. It’s quite good.

Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Underwhelming/better aged/I love this!
If a tobacco is gonna bite me, it’s gonna be a Virginia. Not a problem here. Okay so I kinda disliked this originally, right out of the tin. It burnt too hot and I could feel a tiny burn. Flavor was mild and underwhelming. Make sure tobacco rubbed out and is dry before packing. Not tinder dry, but dryer than you may expect and pack it firmly. Wow, what a smoke. Once I got the mechanics of it down, I kept reaching for this over a few of my other favorite blends. A mild, smooth, sweet, cereal, wheaties, nuts, molasses, chocolate smoke. Flavor deepens as you smoke, bottom of bowl is very chocolate/molasses. Just an update. Upped it from 4.5 to 5 stars. This stuff is good (it’s really grown on me from 3 stars upon first 2 bowls) and easily in my Top 5.

Cornell & Diehl - Epiphany
Tastes better than smells
If I had a nickel… ammIright? I love the smell of tobacco but this is stanky and unpleasantly odiferous. It is pretty tasty though. I cannot figure out the “dark fruit” topping. It starts out tasting like a Burley & English but the further down the bowl it becomes a dark Virginia show with the dark fruit becoming more pronounced. A spice from the burley and perique ride along in the back the whole ride. An interesting tobacco for sure. I’ll def keep some in my rotation…. Wow, the aftertaste left on your lips is wonderful… what is “dark fruit”?!?

Kramer's - Father Dempsey
Nice English
Oriental forward with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Good balance of the tobaccos. Deep dark Virginia flavor underneath a smoky incense stick. Packs easily Smokes well. I updated to 4.5 from 4 after finishing my 2oz. Immediately wanted more. Order on its way

Quality filter
Effective in my Stanwell beechwood. Reduces particulates while leaving the flavor. Doesn’t affect the draw Quality made product. Definitely will order more when needed.

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Surprisingly complex
Slightly sweet, nutty, cereal, dark n deep, fig, spice from dark burley n perique. Starts smooth n mellow and deepens as you smoke. Bottom of bowl is very dark and woody/chocolatey It has more complexity than I expected and I am a fan. Gotta try the cake version
