Cornell & Diehl - Granby Station
Good
I had a large order of mostly C&D blends late last year. Never having tried any of their offerings I just dove in head first. I chose probably 20 different blends, mostly burley based. I think this was one of the first ones I tried from that order and I guess it just didn't strike me as memorable. Today I was going through the collection to find something and noticed that I still had nearly a full bag of Granby. While it is somewhat similar to a few other blends from what I'll call their "train" series, this one I'll definitely be going back for again and will definitely order a larger quantity next time. Has great flavor, but not in your face. I'd call it a little bit of vanilla, a little fruit maybe. I can tell the room note is pleasant and the taste stays put almost for the entire time, atleast in my opinion. Smells vintage, like almost perfumey but in a good way. Not like the cliche "grandpa's pipe" but just smells of a different era, which I like.

Velvet - Velvet 1.5oz
Very Nice, Old School
I don't have anything bad to say. Had planned to try this one for quite some time. As long as I can remember we had an old Velvet tin on the shelf at home that belonged to my dad's dad. I remember reading reviews years ago about a "playdough" smell or taste, which kinda turned me off of ever trying it. Finally went with the pouch before committing to a tin and now I'm ready to invest in a tin, or two. I am a regular of Prince Albert, Carter Hall and equivalent blends. Velvet has a brighter smell than the raisen-ey smell of the previous mentioned. It's not a cherry flavor tobacco, but it's definitely got more of a fruit taste than PA or CH. Id put it more closer to Half and Half. I was somewhat worried about this version of Velvet, being that the production had moved over seas and I've heard how much SWR has changed since then. But I think this Velvet is ok. I have done some research and found that the Velvet of 70+ years ago was more of a brown sugar flavor. Definitely not what this is, Id like to try something similar to what it was, but again, this version is just fine. Really does take you back to a simpler time. Stays lit, reasonably priced, good taste, good room note and it has plenty of history with it. A welcome addition to my rotation

Cornell & Diehl - Golden Days of Yore 2oz
Just not impressed
I had high hopes for this one, especially coming off of Autumn Evening and the Corn Cob Pipe and Button Nose....but this was just a big disappointment. I have tried this in several different pipes and to me there just isn't much flavor. Smell I guess is ok. Tin note is great but for me it doesn't translate into the smoke. I get more flavor off something like Carter Hall. Maybe it's me, but it seems there's plenty others that share my opinion. I'll try it one more time this season, then celler it for a year and see what happens.

Cornell & Diehl - Corn Cob Pipe and A Button Nose Ready Rubbed 2oz
The Better of the Christmas C&D Blends
As many have stated on here, this is the one to get over Golden Days of Yore. This one actually has flavor, a nice subtle chocolate, but not in your face. It smells nice and smokes good. Just a much better holiday offering to me than G.D.O.Y. That one was a major disappointment for me.

Cornell & Diehl - Belmont Station 2oz
Was not impressed
So far, I hate I bought a two ounce tin and not a one ounce bulk. I had high hopes, sounded good. But for me, just something off with the taste, and smell. I don't think I've had a blend with dark fired Kentucky, so not sure if that's it or not. Not overjoyed with it. I'll give it another shot later

Cornell & Diehl - Green River Vanilla
Not bad
This stuff is dark. I don't really get a vanilla smell out of the bag and it's pretty wet. But in the pipe it's a mild vanilla taste. Not bad, not too sweet. Personally it's not one I'd light up daily, but every now and again it's not a bad one

Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
Surprising
Usually stick to the codger blends, but with all the positive ratings, had to give it a try. It's worth it. Tin note, room note, taste.....just try it. I kept going back for more

Cornell & Diehl - Black Gold Maple
Alright
Not an aromatic smoker usually. That being said, it's not overly sweet which I like. Reminds me alot of Autumn Evening. Not bad at all

Cornell & Diehl - Founding Fathers
Different
Like many have said, there's a faint hint of something different. Many have said grape or fruit. It's not in your face, but there if you think about it. A nice change of pace from the typical burleys that have a nutty, vanilla, molasses or rum topping. Very light and airy. Needs no relights

Cornell & Diehl - Engine #611
Good
This is a good aromatic with flavor for a burley lover. Not bad at all

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Surprising
I am a fan of burley based codger blends first and foremost. After months of having a large wish list here on smoking pipes, I finally pulled the trigger on my order. Most of my $180 order was spent on burley based blends with some variants, mostly from C&D. From previous reviews, Haunted Bookshop sounded right up my alley, but I had my reservations about the "cigarette-ish" taste/smell and the dash of perique. I haven't dabbled in many blends that have perique, but the ones I have I can't stand the smell or the taste. In haunted bookshop, it's just the right amount. I can't speak on room note, but I don't think it's offensive. It definitely packs a nicotine punch more than my normal go-to's. And although I did smoke it sort of fast (it was cold outside) it didn't bite me at all. For my first bowl of it, it stayed lit with one light. If you're a PA/CH regular like myself, give this one a try.
