Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
Nice..very,very nice!
I have read some older piping books about Latakia being the big bad wolf of pipe tobaccos, but I really don’t think it’s like that at all. I mean, after all, our American sense of spiciness in foods have really changed since the 1960s. Probably we have moved beyond the idea that Latakia and Perique will make you puke if you smoke them straight as an exercise in taste sensativity. I think this is true. This blend has the campfire smokiness of Latakia (obviously), and the peppery spiciness of the incencesy Orientals (with Cayenne pepper and ginger). On the plus side, this blend lends itself to a wide variety of applications in which Latakia is the required element for sprucing up an otherwise dull blend and moving it toward an interesting English blend.

Sutliff - Duke Albert
Burns Faster
A coconut smell in the tin. Occasional horse radishy pain up the nose (probably because I’m a wet, sloppy puffer). Coffee (Colombian) with cream (but no sugar). Bread crusty. Old book mustiness. Nutty with an almondy sweetness. Hints of baking chocolate and root vegetables. Like a Mounds bar with low sugar. A nice, mellow all day smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Green River Vanilla 2oz
Nice and Better
It was nutty, peppery, and sweet, as can be expected. My daughter Lucy thought it smelled like peanut butter (which is nice, because I never can discern the smell of the tobacco). A little horse radishy up-the-nose at times (which I don’t mind, really). Roasted sweet peppers, baker’s chocolate with sugar , black coffee (Columbia) with cream, and horse tacky leather (but not sweat). It was really nice. I liked it. Kinda like Crazy Ray’s crunchy peanut butter with some sugar.

Arango - Balkan Supreme
An Outstanding English Blend
I was on an Old Dublin jag for the longest time, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the tastiness of this English blend. If I ever had to face a firing squad, Inwould definitely want this to be my last smoke!
