Peter Stokkebye - PS27 Pistachio
Delicious
Typically when it comes to aromatics, I’m firmly in the camp that they are, first and foremost, meant for those around you. They’re usually nothing more than hot air as far as perceptible flavor goes. Stokkebye knocked it out with this one though, as far as aromatics go. Creamy, mellow, vaguely nutty, very custardy. An enjoyable change of pace from my usual VaPers and Balkans. Goes well with some morning coffee and a good book.
Lane Limited - BCA
A step up
It’s Lane Limited 1-Q’s older brother. BCA is certainly more flavorful than 1-Q, but not overly so. On the rare occasion where I find myself reaching for this, it’s usually to mix with a codger like SWR. On its own, BCA provides anise liqueur notes, vanilla, and a mild creaminess. I suppose this could be an all-day smoke due to how mild it is, but why would you pick it over anything else?
Sutliff - Cringle Flake 2022 1.5oz
Meh
Cringle Flake 2022 definitely needs some dry time before packing. Even then, multiple relights were needed. Flavor is acidic with hints of dark fruits (think cherry, plum, etc). It’s not the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever smoked. Will revisit again once it’s had some cellar time.
Presbyterian - Ordained 50g
Mild and without bite
Right out of the tin, the smell is light and bready, maybe a little hay-like. I broke up a flake and packed it down into my MM Charlestown Cobbler and lit up. This blend is mild, mellow, and does not demand your attention. Flavor notes are reminiscent of corn whiskey, thin pizza crust, and just a little bit like golden raisins. I’d imagine this might pair really well with a full-bodied white wine, cream soda, or green tea. Room note, per the girlfriend, is good. Overall, it packs well, behaves well, does not bite, and offers an overall relaxing, if simple, smoke. I’m excited to see how these do with age.

Great little pipe
Perfect bowl size for a morning smoke with coffee. Best part is being able to set it down without any issues if you need to use both hands for something.

Smokes cool
Keeps your smokes nice and cool. Especially useful for sitting around a campfire. Feels nice in the hand and is also useful for pointing to other things with.

Solid little clencher
Good for clenching while reading or out for a walk. One of my go-to pipes for VAs.

I can see why he liked it
I can see why this was a favorite of Tolkien. Grassy, tangy, sweet, a perfect Virginia blend that smokes easy.

Newminster - No.400 Superior Navy Flake
Really tasty stuff
Can't wait to see how this stuff ages, but fresh it's hay-forward and tangy with some subtle citrus. An easy all-day kind of smoke
Arango - Balkan Supreme
Where’d my legs go?
Tastier that Nightcap. Certainly stronger than Nightcap. I smoked 3-5 cigars a week and a few bowls a day. This stuff knocked me on my butt. I’m totally buying more.
Cornell & Diehl - Speakeasy Navy Blend 2oz
Pleasant after a year and a half
The tin I have has been aged for roughly a year and a half. The rum topping is mild and pleasant and does not overstay its welcome. The rest of the bowl offers flavors of sweet, complex Virginia tobacco with a little pepper from the Perique. The DFK is here, but it’s mellow and complements the other tobaccos well. I couldn’t note a ton of Oriental tobacco, but maybe I just didn’t know what I was looking for. Overall, I would buy more of this to see how it ages.
Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Hints of fruit and bread
Overall a very nutty, bready, slightly fruity (dried apples and raisins) flavor profile. Not bitey at all. Definitely pick this one up if you’re a fan of VaBur
Sir Walter Raleigh - Regular 1.5oz
Daily smoker
This is my go-to at-work pipe. Smoke it on my lunch break and smoke 1/2 bowls on my smoke breaks. Great codger blend with a pleasant taste and room note. Will be buying again in the big tin.
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
Tastes great in small doses
Probably won't buy again, but I did enjoy it. Will likely keep this to 1/2 bowl smokes in my MM Ozark as an occasional nightcap.
Missouri Meerschaum - Maple Hardwood Apple Diplomat Straight (6mm)
Not bad, not great
I've smoked out of it a few times now. 4 or so bowls. It's an easy smoker, but the shank was a little loose.
Peterson - Nightcap 50g
Good 'baccy
Great stuff for reading out on the back porch on a summer evening. Just enough nuance to get a smile out of you when you pick up on something new, but reserved enough to let you focus on other things too.
Missouri Meerschaum - Boone Straight (6mm)
Great, sturdy cob
well constructed, doesn't get too hot, clenches real nice. Bowl size is decent and this is becoming my go-to cob for English blends. Nightcap smokes great out of it.
Amphora - Special Reserve Black Cavendish 1.75oz
Mild Cavendish
This is a mild cavendish with a pleasant room note and some mild, fruity flavors. Smokes well and is not too wet. Solid smoke for the price and brand.
Amphora - Burley 1.75oz
Solid codger blend
This is the archetypal burley. It's pleasant, a little nutty, not in your face. It doesn't demand your attention and sticks around like an old friend.
Missouri Meerschaum - Ozark Mountain Straight (6mm)
Solid pipe for the price
Great beginner pipe, smokes for 20-30 minutes. Better than some briars I've tried. Definitely a workhorse pipe and you can afford to keep a few in your rotation at this pricepoint.

Perfect tool
I don't care if you're smoking out of a Z$100+ estate pipe or a $4 cob, you're probably using this tool.
Amphora - Amphora Sampler
Good overall sampler
I'm definitely a fan of this sampler as a good entry into smoking pipes. These are good archetypal blends that will give you a general idea of what each type of blend has to offer. My only complaint is that the Virginia could be a little stronger, but that's neither here nor there. My girlfriend's a big fan of the room note on the Black Cavendish too.
