Cornell & Diehl - Sansepolcro 2oz
Great Blend
Yet another win for C&D this blend hits all the right notes without harshness or bit the VA’s are premium and the Dark Fired and Cavendish in the right places at the right times this will age beautifully .

Hearth & Home - Bright Night 1.75oz
Great Blend
The extra processing they use to make this blend really makes it come alive and is by far the best VA I’ve had that’s came out of the Sutliff factory. Sweet bready little bit of citrus a really great VA.

Five Brothers - Five Brothers 1.25oz
Great Burley
Earthy, nutty and strong a great burley at the right moisture level. Shag cut means take it easy but if you love pure tobacco this is a must.

Sillem's - Councilor 1695 50g
Great Blend
A very nice VaPer buttery bread and stone fruit subtle and flavorful a solid blend to keep in your cellar

Cornell & Diehl - Oak Alley 2oz
Solid Blend
Earthy nutty tiny bit of floral and stone fruit in the back a solid blend and something to keep as a change of pace a pure tobacco experience. Does remind me a bit of cigarettes so knocked off .5 star also my wife says the room note is terrible it has the stinky Turkish smell tastes=good smell=mad wife

Cornell & Diehl - Dark Burley
Great Burley
Good straight burley a little creamy a little cigar a little earthy and nutty. The quintessential burley that will make you take a nap if you get a little forgetful of what you got going on. I have no doubt it will work well in home blends but is wonderful straight.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Flake Unscented
Excellent Blend
I feel like this is just the black Irish x in flake form. Therefore I love this blend. Dark Strong and lovely.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Flake Unscented
Excellent Flake
This flake as always comes wet but 30 minutes dry time and you have an excellent smoke like HH Burley Flake with Gawith flare. I would smoke this all day everyday and be happy if it just came dryer and you didn’t spend 1/4 of you money on water.

Peter Heinrichs - Golden Sliced 100g
Excellent Virginia
Coming in at nearly perfect moisture maybe 5-10 minutes dry time a solid Virginia flake hay, sweet bready and hints of citrus a bright VA without bite comes in a 100g coil of flake. Excellent aging potential. A little bit of graham cracker after taste is the only flaw in my opinion.

Three Nuns - Three Nuns 1.75oz
Good blend
This version seems to be a solid blend from the start. Perfect moisture out the tin. Definitely a clove topping, lighter than Peter Heinrich Curley special with a bit of dark fired to give it a bit of complexity.

Mac Baren - HH Burley Flake 1.75oz
Great Flake
At first the dark fires seemed a bit strong after a the tin it seems to me to be a near perfect burley flake perfect moisture out the tin and solid flavor to the bottom of the bowl.No bite near perfect burley flake

Capstan - Ready Rubbed Blue 1.75oz
Great Blend
Same great tobacco and maybe the only I’ve ever had that Ready rubbed just as good as the flake with the added benefit of easy packing and as always perfect moisture right out the tin

Peterson - Elizabethan Mixture 50g
Satisfying smoke
Not surprisingly this is a great blend rich with no bite. This is a blend is a must try but lacks anything stand out so not for my cellar.

Charatan - Flake 50g
Great Virginia
This is a great Virginia quality tobacco but…nothing stand out this is a great mindless smoke and very slightly topped tobacco not always noticeable. Great but not a stand out when on sale put a few in the cellar no doubt they will age well.

Esoterica - Tilbury 2oz
Good Blend
A solid blend of it was readily available but nothing I’ll spend aftermarket money on.

Wessex - Curly Block 275g
Great Block
Cool idea and very good tobacco not in my top five but definitely worth having a few in the cellar if you can afford the ridiculous price tag

Cornell & Diehl - Anthology 2023 2oz
Another Great Blend
This is another hit by C&D they are at the top of the red VA game

Daughters & Ryan - Three Sails
Solid Choice
If your looking for a roll your own it’s good if you want it for a pipe well it’s good nothing great but for the price put 5 lb in the cellar to age

Sutliff - Cringle Flake 2023 1.5oz
Not bad
This has a decent flavor but as with all Sutliff Virginia it’s not really good and a bit bitey glad I got 2 but I wish the VA just had some sort of good quality.

Mac Baren - HH Mature Virginia 100g
Not Bad
Very Smokey when you open the tin the tin I have came with 10-11 years of age on it very mature Smokey stone fruit flavor profile a pretty good blend too bad it’s gone….

Wessex - Red Virginia Flake 50g
Great Blend
If you like red Virginia flake it’s hard to get much better cellar deep when available

Peter Heinrichs - Curly Special 100g
Great Blend
This is a solid everyday smoke a little clove maybe casing no detectable top note perfect moisture out of the tin will definitely will cellar a couple tins whenever it’s available

John Aylesbury - Classic Flake 50g
Aromatic
This blend is topped to the point it’s an aromatic I don’t like aromatics. I will jar this for a few years and see if some of that goes away but highly disappointed. When I see VA flake I want a pure tobacco experience.

G. L. Pease - Fillmore 2oz
OK Blend
Very disappointed in this blend its ok but it tastes like something mixed between dirty gym socks and spoiled something. For Red VA and Perique this is just kind of bizarre better than nothing but nothing like what you want a blend like this to taste like.

Germain - Bridge: Old Brown Flake 50g
Great Virginia
This is a good Virginia blend though I don’t quite understand the extreme appeal of these blends. This tastes like white pepper and olive oil and maybe some sort of fruit in the very back, a very savory blend that burns very well with maybe 10-15 minutes dry time out the tin.while a tasty blend the Virginia is covered up by the almost steak type seasoning. Good smoke but don’t go out of your way to find it.Best way I can put it is olive oil, salt and pepper.

Wessex - Brown Virginia Flake 50g
Great Virginia
Not the best I’ve had yet that doesn’t change the fact that this is a great straight Virginia no bite and excellent aging potential. Pure tobacco experience.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 8oz
Great Blend
Not Carolina Red flake plus perique but a good blend for when you run out till the next drop.

Cutters & Accessories - Credo Cigar Scissors
Good cutter
Bought just to cut rope tobacco works great.

Low Country - Natural Virginia & Burley
Good Blend
Nothing stand out about this just a cheap mindless smoke no bite and good for what it is. Nothing worth ordering again just an oz to try it out.

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Ok Blend
This is a good blend but absolutely nothing that stands out just a cheap mindless smoke ok in a pinch but nothing to order again.

Cornell & Diehl - From Beyond 2oz
Best Balkan by C&D
You would be hard pressed to find a better blend this may be the perfect Balkan and the new Latakia just makes it sweeter. Enjoy a wonderful blend.

Cornell & Diehl - Red Carpet 2oz
Ok Blend
Maybe a seldom ordered blend my tin had 18 months age when I got it. Now this blend is ok but has an odd smell when opened and tastes nothing like you would expect a red VA to taste like from c&d and the perique is almost non existent. Now it tastes fine and it’s worth maybe a tin to see if you like it but this one’s not for me too many others that are better in this category.

Low Country - Waccamaw 2oz
Good Flake
While nothing stand out this blend is a solid VaPer the tin I opened had just over a year of age and is a very mellow and smooth. The only downside to this is the perique is pretty subtle and not a big player and not sure I care for the added oriental and therefore this isn’t something I’ll be cellaring but is certainly worth a try if you haven’t had it.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
Great Blend
C&D does the best job with Red VA in my opinion and this blend has a good mix of punchy perique not Carolina Red Flake+Perique but the best thing you can get when it’s not available. Not quite sure what everyone is talking about with strength though, I smoked 5 bowls of this today back to back before work and it isn’t that strong. If you want strong go smoke 3/4 bowl of HH Rustica.

Astley's - No. 44 Dark Virginia Flake 50g
Great Virginia
This blend won’t blow you away but the Virginias are sweet, bready, citrus notes and rich. That said nothing stand out with this one but put a bunch away this will age well. It’s still a solid VA

Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Good Blend
This is a good basic daily smoke but it can be a little bitey if you’re sensitive to bright VA like I am. Aside from that enjoyable and exactly what you would expect for a VaBur from C&D

Warped - The Haunting Cake 2oz
Ok blend
The reason this is called the Haunting is because it’s gonna haunt your pipe for a while this has the Lakeland essence effect I literally had to double check my pipe to make sure I didn’t have the Lakeland pipe.Glad I tried it, it’s not bad I’ll finish this tin and let the other sit for 5-10 years and revisit.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Best Brown #2 Flake 50g
Very good blend
I see a lot of vinegar and sour but I get only maybe a little sourdough. I get sweet earthy bready and mild. No Lakeland at all. Not a whole lot of bite if you take it easy and the driest Gawith blend I’ve ever had(which means only about 30minutes of dry time)I imagine with a few years on this it will be really wonderful. The more I have of this the more I like it quickly becoming a favorite.UPDATE this has now made the daily rotation cellaring as many tins as possible.

Sutliff - Sutliff 1849 1.5oz
Ok Blend
This blend is good but is a little bitey to me because of bright VA in it and I’m not finding the depth and enjoyment I do in a quality VaPer. Good blend cheap just not for me hope you love it.

Cornell & Diehl - Burley Flake #1 2oz
Good blend
If you’re looking for a clean basic down to earth tobacco you can mindlessly smoke without worry of bite and solid chops you found it.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal #7
Good blend
This is a very approachable Lakeland. Shag cut comes at the perfect moisture no bite and lots of flavor. BBQ Smokey dark fired Virginia and strong dark leaf. A great mindless smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
Great Blend
As expected another great blend this year nice bready reds with punchy earthy spicy perique. The pinnacle of VaPers. Hard to find anything better.

G. L. Pease - Union Square 2oz
Solid Virginia
This is a good blend a little bitey for me but I’m sensitive to bright VA. Bready and malty a bit heavier on the reds.

McConnell - Flake 50g
Great Virginia
The tin note when opening was honestly odd. But when packed this is a very solid Virginia very sweet but no noticeable top note maybe sugar water but either way very pleasing dark and bready sweet Virginia the aging potential seems very high.

Orlik - Golden Sliced 50g
Great Blend
Hay citrus and bread. This leaves a very satisfying aftertaste. Not bitey it seems as if the reputation of this blend is well earned. Cellar deep.

Sutliff - 515 RC-1
Blender
Vinegar tobacco blend only for me but definitely has its uses

Low Country - Edisto 2oz
Great Red Virginia
This is a great red Virginia flake great flavor and easy smoking strong enough for a Balkan guy to enjoy. This may not be Carolina Red Flake but it is a very solid and cheap everyday driver. Will put a couple lbs in the cellar

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Irish X
Great Rope
Great classic rope bold flavor and grounded earthiness a slight smoky flavor l. The one thing I don’t like is the head spin nic hit but it comes with the territory use a smaller bowl and you will find a favorite hear.

Mac Baren - HH Pure Virginia 1.75oz
Ok Blend
The flavor is good but to me its basically Capstan yellow its very mild and lacking any sort of interesting flavor. Mild hay and very little else

Capstan - Flake Yellow 1.75oz
Ok Virginia
This tastes fine and has no bite at all but that said it also has the least flavor of any Virginia Ive had.Bland and boring.

Samuel Gawith - 1792 Flake 50g
Good Old Fashioned
This blend brings forward nostalgia for an old way of doing things its a good quality flavor unique to itself vanilla ish and good tobacco bringing it home

Samuel Gawith - Best Brown Flake 50g
Good Blend
This blend has good flavor but is unfortunately for me chemically bitey. The first I have found from S.G. to give me problem if not for that solid 4 stars

Dan Tobacco - Patriot Flake 50g
Great Virginia
I love the theme of these blends and better yet they are all very good. This is a wonderful bready little hay Virginia deserving of a bit of love.

Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake 50g
Butter bread
Get up on a summer day to fresh baked bread a little toasty and heavily buttered.....now go eat in a nice clean hay pile in the sunshine. Stay away from this one I'll take care of it for you

Peter Stokkebye - PS52 Proper English
Good Bulk English
Nothing special here just a good bulk English it is a bit too sweet for my liking but still a good smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Red Virginia Ribbon
Good Straight
Solid red ribbon you have had a hundred times in C&D blends. That said it smokes great on its own its a great mild mindless smoke.

Peter Stokkebye - PS41 Cube Cut
Disappointed
This blend isn't bad but its an aromatic. Super sweet the tobacco flavor is lost in whatever topping is on this it doesn't taste bad but I don't like aromatic sweetness and definitely not in something labeled as a non aro.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Balkan Mixture
Great Blend
Great Balkan tastes the same as the tinned version I will always keep a few around for when you want classic and the best its this or Squadron Leader

Sir Walter Raleigh - Regular 1.5oz
Ok Blend
On my codger blend journey that I have slowly taken as of late this is so far the best. Can't say much good about it but I may still smoke a pipe if this is all I could get which is my best observation of codger blends so far.

Samuel Gawith - Squadron Leader 50g
One of the best
If you like English than this is a must try in my top 10

Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Ok flake
This is a good smoke but the top note is not something I think will age well and a bit to aromatic for me

Mac Baren - HH Rustica Flake 3.5oz
Good Blend
A strong blend with complex flavor if you want a rustic smoke with a huge punch you found it, worth trying but you have to be equipped with a good palette to really find the nuances. I find it a great weekday evening nightcap. The weekends my taster is just too fried from smoking all day to truly enjoy.

Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear Tupelo 2oz
Great Blend
The floral sweetness of this blend with the little tequila touch makes a consistent winner year after year no matter what honey is used but the difference is noticeable and gives each year a spot of its own

Amphora - Virginia Blend 1.75oz
Good Virginia
Nothing special here just a good clean Virginia blend Per made this for himself so you know its solid just not a lot of flavor a simple Virginia all day smoke

Rattray's - 3 Noggins 50g
Solid Blend
A Virginia forward English with plenty of flavor standard English I would put in the Nightcap EMP 965 flavor profile but with a more natural sweetness from the VA. Worth a few in the cellar for sure. Part of the gold standard for a reason.

Sutliff - Pipe Force Episode IV 1.75oz
Unique Blend
This is a punchy peppery blend solid and interesting if it was available always I would probably have to put it in regular rotation. Woodsy and solid its a worthy blend. Smooth and complex it does have a fairly high nicotine hit which is the only down side in my opinion because you do have to take breaks. It would be an all day smoke if not for that. I hope they continue this blend for years to come. Top 10

Half and Half - Half and Half 1.5oz
Just ok
I decided to go have a try at the old codger blends since I got lucky and found artisan blends almost immediately. I feel like the tobacco in this blend is of good quality so gave an extra star. That said YUCK! The anise and whatever gives a slight mentholy piney something I feel like this would be a good blend with no topping.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Twilight Mixture
Excellent Blend
Plenty of flavor something I find lacking in many VaPers.I also have a problem with tongue bite with many Virginia's and with this amazingly none at all I might get a pound of this for the cellar after an oz I'm very impressed flavorful blend.

Captain Black - Original 1.5oz
Ok Classic
It’s not a bad flavor but if you are interested in tobaccos and flavor profiles you will find no joy here

Missouri Meerschaum - Creeper of the Corn 1.5oz
Good Blend
I'm not an aromatic guy but sometimes you need some big flavor. This blend will do it lots of cinnamon and raisin a little rum in there but in all like an alcoholic cinnamon roll very nice and definitely a good fall blend but late on a summer night it can be a great nightcap

Cornell & Diehl - Redburn 2oz
Nice Burley Blend
Nice earthy blend you get the molasses and rum very mellow and won't bite at all. Nice big nicotine hit if that's your thing. I like this blend if my tongue needs a break and I still want a good bowl. Worthy of a couple in the cellar.

Cornell & Diehl - Kajun Kake 2oz
Good Blend
Not a favorite but a good intro into VaPers. It has a nice mild sweetness and flavor of the Red VA and you get some Perique the Cavendish really mellows this out and kind of gets bland. Flavor is lacking but a decent nicotine punch. It’s worth a shot and maybe put a couple away and see how they age over the years.

Hearth & Home - Cerberus 1.75oz
Ok Blend
This is a tobacco comes dry as a bone and it has some smell of bbq from the dark fired when you open the tin and a bit of hay. After I got into the tin a bit the Latakia really started to show up it’s worth a tin to try but with a year of age I'm not too impressed.

Tabac De La Semois - Reserve du Patron 3.5oz
Great Straight
I was a bit afraid to try because straight Burley tends to remind me of when I was a cigarette smoker. I sat on this for about a year before I decided to try it. When opened I was amazed at how dry it was but I read that's how its intended. So lighting it up I have to say I'm very impressed smooth, nutty, buttery and very pleasant not something I smoke daily but when nothing is tasting good with my normal Balkan or Va-Pers I go here and it almost always goes well on the palate. Definitely worth trying if you enjoy a straight Burley now and then.

Drucquer & Sons - The Merry Monk 100g
Great Blend
Great flavor and complex enough to be interesting for a long time plenty of flavor Top 10 all time for sure.

Cornell & Diehl - Miskatonic Mixture 2oz
Ok Blend
I am a big fan of HPL and From Beyond is my favorite tobacco. With one year of age when I opened this tin it smelled like chocolate cake bread and milk chocolate. Unfortunately when smoked I taste little to nothing maybe red Virginia and a little oriental but way to bland I admit I need flavorful tobacco since Covid my taste buds are a bit dull most days I’ll finish this tin and hope I have a few days of clarity where something changes. Love the idea of the series.

Dan Tobacco - Black Velvet 50g
Great Crossover
This blend has a great tobacco/topping combination. The tobacco comes through well and you can appreciate the Virginias the Latakia plays a very minor note but goes great with the dark sweetness of the Stout for a Balkan guy it’s a change of pace to be kept in the cellar for the public smoking days.

A&C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
Good Blend
This blend has good Virginia flavor but is lacking on anything else making it extremely disappointing after the nonstop praise.

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired Ready Rubbed
Ok Blend
While not bad it tastes like stale bbq too sweet

Arango - Balkan Supreme
Great Bulk
Not my favorite Balkan but when it comes to bulk blends its hard to find d much better than. This

Sutliff - 500 African Queen
Good Blend
A good aromatic minimum topping the tobacco come through very well good Virginia type blend for those who like natural with slight enhancement.

Captain Earle's - Nightwatch 2oz
Great Blend
Every C.E. blend so far has been great but all have a similar profile and so far Mystic Blend is still better

Sutliff - 523 Voodoo Queen
Unique Blend
This is certainly unique almost English but with a burly twist making it full body earthy, bready,A tiny bit of punch from the perique and a touch of smoke from the latakia. The flavor is stronger than I expected and is pleasant Ok blend might keep a few oz in the cellar I bet it ages very well

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East Gold 2oz
Good Blend
Nothing like its name sake it is floral and buttery a good all day blend but lacking the lakakia to keep the Star of the East name it should be named something entirely unique.

Captain Earle's - Ten Russians 2oz
Great Blend
As with all C.E. Blends it’s great flavor while this is very heavy in Latakia it is a wonderful blend on those days where your taster is not working so well this blend has flavor to spare and comes through well keep a few in the cellar for those dark days

G. L. Pease - Bankside 2oz
Good Blend
A very unique interpretation of a VaPer I enjoy the smoky background the Dark Fired and Latakia present by unfortunately I think if I am going VaPer I prefer a more pungent note of Perique such as Virginia Jazz has still a quality blend worth trying

Two Friends - Deacon's Downfall 2oz
Good Blend
Nothing wrong with this blend but also has nothing to make it stand out an for a few dollars per tin less you can get the same thing from many other blends

Low Country - Cooper 2oz
Good Blend
Nothing great here just a solid mild English good for the budget

G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 2oz
Good Balkan
Never disappointed in a Pease blend but nothing really stands out here. That said if your looking for a medium classic Balkan look no farther.

Hearth & Home - Magnum Opus 1.75oz
Initial Review Ok
This seems to be a good blend but nothing is standing out to me. It is a bit sweet for my tastes so far I will switch though a few pipes and finish off the tin but so far not overly impressed and there for disappointed in the Magnum Opus.

Seattle Pipe Club - Virginia Jazz 2oz
Great Blend
I’m a Balkan/English guy so take my opinion with a grain of salt. This blend is quite lovely in my opinion yes figgy and dark fruit, a little punch of perique and it is very flavorful. Enough to keep a Balkan guy interested. Bright Virginia tends to give me tongue bite so when I seen just mellow reds though I usually find them a bit bland alone I decided to give it a shot and wow they work really well in this blend. I’m not converting by any means but I want to try everything once and this blend will find a place in my cellar a few tins at least for when I’m ready for a change of pace like I was this week.

Solani - Gold Label- English Luxury - 779 50g
Ok Blend initial review
After the first bowl I’m very unimpressed. Not much in the Latakia department and with heavy oriental that I love they fall pretty flat. I’m finding nothing here that is redeemable with such a high price tag. Also so far I have gotten more of a cigarette flavor than anything and after smoking cigarettes for 25 years I find this terrible. English blends at this price point should be divine and not reminiscent of lousy cigarettes.

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East 2oz
Good Blend
Though lacking a distinctive appeal this is a solid English without topping. The Red Virginias work well and this blend doesn’t cause me tongue bite like some of the bright Virginia’s do. Solid blend just nothing great.

Dan Tobacco - Gordon Pym 50g
Good Blend
Like the book this blend is good not great the Latakia is a bit lacking and the orientals dont stand out much to me. While a perfect moisture when opened it seems to cause tongue bite a bit for me. It seems a bit high in Virginias and needs a slower cadence to avoid severe bite.I will keep a couple in the cellar because the name but this wont be a go to blend.

McConnell - Boutique Blend 50g
Good Blend
Perfect moisture when opening the tin a very mellow but solid English not strong enough to stand out in a crowd but if you like 965 or early morning pipe you will like this. Worthy of a try for sure just nothing outstanding to make it find a place in the cellar.Update the paper in the tin was quite discolored so I wonder if this wasnt why it was so mellow might have been on the shelf a few years, age works great and this blend got buttery after you get used to it but not the kind of english I typically go for

Sutliff - SPS-2007 Bourbon
Ok blend
Too sweet no bourbon flavor or maybe bourbon syrup

Sutliff - 707 Sweet Virginia
Too sweet
Like candy Virginia good for aromatic blending maybe

Sutliff - 515 RC-1
Good for blending
Good for blending

Cornell & Diehl - Latakia
Good for blending
Good for blending

Cornell & Diehl - Dark Fired Kentucky
Good for blending
Good for blending
