ADVentura - The Royal Return: Queen's Pearls Corona
Good Stick
Quality as always from this company but not impressed with this one
Warped - Midsommar 2oz
Solid blend
Not what I was expecting very tobacco forward not much of any top note just st a clean blend worthy of its namesake
Cobblestone - Brick Virginia Plug 1.75oz
Good Blend
Smokes very well while almost being mellow to the point of a double pressing. Solid Red VA.
Davidoff - Royalty 50g
Not bad
Certainly a different feel for an English sweet undertones with solid complexity worth a shot.
Drew Estate - Deadwood Leather Rose Torpedo
Solid Stick
This is a very flavorful stick but I prefer the taste of tobacco not chocolate and whatever else.
Cobblestone - Outdoors Hunting 1.75oz
Very good blend
This is an excellent blend solid VA-Per with a good burley addition that adds volume to the smoke and reduces bite. A little citrus and hay with a bit of earthiness. A pure tobacco experience that may unexpectedly be one of my favorite blends to date.
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - 1855 1.4oz
Great Blend
Exactly what it says. Lots of citrus, bit of hay and great natural flavor with little bite for a brighter VA. My tin had about 2 years age and will definitely be something I start to put away in the cellar.
Cornell & Diehl - Kelly's Coin 2oz
Good blend
Solid and there it really just tastes like dark blending burley with a dose of red VA good and sweeter than expected.
Warped - Saint Espresso 2oz
Great Blend
Im gonna be one of those guys.....I dont like aromatics but I had to try this since it seems so well recieved. I really like it certainly the best aro Ive ever had. Keep it up Warped.
Cornell & Diehl - Opening Night 2oz
Solid VA
Seemingly flying under the radar this is a solid straight VA with very little bite for those like me that don’t do well with bright VA.
ADVentura - The Royal Return: King's Gold Corona
Great stick
Probably my favorite stick that’s not a toscano
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Mixed
One of my favorite blends
This is the best of Gawith 10 minutes dry time and slow easy burn no bite and lots of flavor
Sutliff - Per G. Jensen Bold & Strong
Great Tobacco
Once again a great blend or blender from Per. All these tobaccos are wonderful on their own and I have no doubt will blend well together. Personally I like all 3 non aromatic blenders all stand alone pure tobacco experience worthy of putting away plenty to age.
Sutliff - Per G. Jensen Virginia
Great VA
This smokes great all alone great VA flavor with no bite. I’m sure it will blend well but will be keeping lots around for a solid pure tobacco smoke.
Sutliff - Per G. Jensen Burley
Great Burley
This is a great smoke all by itself. Solid pure burley blended very well.
Missouri Meerschaum - Bracken Straight
Good pipe
Solid corn cob the only downside to this one is it is a bit heavy for a constant clincher.
Cornell & Diehl - White Burley
Great blender
Exactly what you would expect solid white burley mellow and at the right moisture. Good for smoking alone or blending.
Sutliff - 507C Virginia Slices
Solid VA Flake
Solid VA flavor slightest graham cracker flavor but don’t let that stop you if you like straight VA it’s slight and the VA bready hay like notes are all there.
Cornell & Diehl - Derringer
Underrated VA
This is a solid VA blend. Bready mellow sweetness great play between bright and reds a solid all day VA very little bite.
Cornell & Diehl - Eight State Burley 2oz
Great Blend
Mellow sweet cocoa earth nuts perfect moisture to load fresh from the tin. Great Burley
Cornell & Diehl - Mad Fiddler Flake 2oz
Ok Blend
I’m say up front I’m not into aromatics. This is a good blend but has too much of an odd taste and room note. An odd mix of gym socks and some sort of bitter fruit. Ok to get through a tin but no more for me thanks.
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Fathers, Friends & Fire Batch 002 Virginia Perique Flake 2oz
Ok blend
This may be a hit for some but I’m not one into the gym socks perique and this tastes and smells like dirty gym socks so if you like that it will be a hit.
Seattle Pipe Club - Down Yonder 2oz
Good blend but…
This is a tasty blend but in no way warrants $20 this is a $10 basic blend wrapped in a $10 SPC tin. If this was $10-12 I may put some away to age but for the $20 I won’t buy this again and at this price point there isn’t a SPC blend I will buy again.
Drew Estate - Kentucky Fire Cured Chunky
Good Stick
Solid fired cured with Nicaragua wrapper good occasional smoke
Toscano - Antica Riserva (2 Pack)
Best of the boxed
This is my favorite of the non master aged Toscanos. Excellent depth and flavor.
Toscano - Garibaldi (5 Pack)
Good Sticks
These are worth the money solid everyday smokes the hickory profile is a nice change from the other but Antica Riserva reign supreme
Toscano - Master Aged Serie 4
Best Stick made
If you like Toscano than this will be then best you had my number 1 stuck.
Tabac De La Semois - Arduinna
Good Stick
Nothing great here but a solid quality stick for a great price
Drew Estate - Kentucky Fire Cured Ponies (10 Pack)
Solid smokes
Just mini Kentucky Fire Cured solid as their full size counterparts.
Amphora - Burley 1.75oz
Great Burley
I had no expectations here but I’m very impressed solid burley blend not aromatic at all solid tobacco taste as it should be.
Cornell & Diehl - Steamworks 2oz
Great Blend
Quality tobacco in a good flavor but a little bitey for me glad I have a couple to age but I’ll keep only a couple around
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Small Batch Freja & Loki 2oz
Great Tobacco
This is something interesting to try. I got 2 tins because it sounded good. Turns out even as a non aromatic smoker I really enjoy this when you first light a bowl it’s a bit strong in the flavor department but then about 1/2 way down the quality tobaccos come through and this blend really shines the rest of the way. Well worth a couple tins for something unique and change of pace. I’m glad I took a chance on it. Maybe those who never ordered it shouldn’t whine about it and stay out of the reviews.
Amphora - Kentucky Blend 1.75oz
Solid Blend
This tastes like a mix of HH Burley flake and has a similar texture and darkness like the HH Rustica solid blend overall a sleeper.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Bird's Eye
Great Tobacco
If this didn’t have the Lakeland essence it would be 5 star as is it’s just a great tobacco and not on another level
Cobblestone - Outdoors Hiking 1.75oz
Solid Burley Flake
This is a very good burley flake reminds me of HH Burley Flake but without as much dark fired for more of a true burley taste will definitely buy more on sale for the cellar but not a rotation smoke for me.
Daughters & Ryan - Ryback 16oz
Great Value Tobacco
This blend is a pretty well done mixture of sweet bready VA and earthy toasty burley and some added spice from the dark fired. I think if you like Penny Farthing from GLP than you will likely enjoy this more because you get a similar flavor profile for 1/5 the price.
G. L. Pease - Penny Farthing 2oz
Great Blend
Bready with a little perique goodness and dark fired spice perfect moisture ready to pop the top and light.
Sutliff - Ready Rubbed Match
Solid Blend
This blend is pretty great for what it is I’m not much of a codger blend or burley guy but this blend burns easy has a great cocoa undertone and good earth with a bit of bread. This may take high honors for my mindless smoke a bowl while doing stuff blend.
Savinelli - 140th Anniversary 100g
Great Blend
This blend has a wonderful floral essence. Easy burning this comes off as a twisted Sun Bear with dark fired instead of honey as the defining characteristic. Wonderful room note. Sip easy and be rewarded with a good time.
Presbyterian - Ordained 50g
Solid Virginia
Good flake bread and hay with a very light citrusy graham cracker finish. Get an extra tin or 2 to age.
Cascadia - Trail Head 1.76oz
Good Blend
Good moisture when opening dense plug but after sliced and broken up maybe 10 minutes dry time. No top note but detectable fruity undertones in the casing, overall a little fruit sweetness from VA and earthy burley with a steady burn rate. No bite seems to be a solid blend maybe not something to cellar deep but no doubt it will age well and be a good change of pace in the future.
Cobblestone - Brick Burley Plug 1.75oz
Great Burley
If you like Five Brothers and want a similar flavor profile but much better with more depth and complexity you found it. This has to be one of the best straight burleys on the market.Im thinking they use the double press method to make this unique.
Fribourg & Treyer - Cut Blended Plug 50g
Good Blend
This is a solid blend sweet and bready tin note and when smoked it’s very fruity and bready. A good smoke but definitely a fruity top note. Not a pure tobacco experience.
Savinelli - Juno 2oz
Solid Blend
Bready sweet VA, mellow and hints of hay I imagine this will age extremely well. This won’t be a rotation smoke but definitely a few gonna go in the cellar.
McConnell - Black Flake 50g
Great Blend
I hope the word doesn’t get out that this and Heritage Flake are 2 absolutely great blends. VA with plenty of VA flavor with a little sweetness and this has a slight stone fruit on the back end
Cornell & Diehl - Sansepolcro 2oz
Great Blend
Yet another win for C&D this blend hits all the right notes without harshness or bit the VA’s are premium and the Dark Fired and Cavendish in the right places at the right times this will age beautifully .
Hearth & Home - Bright Night 1.75oz
Great Blend
The extra processing they use to make this blend really makes it come alive and is by far the best VA I’ve had that’s came out of the Sutliff factory. Sweet bready little bit of citrus a really great VA.
Five Brothers - Five Brothers 1.25oz
Great Burley
Earthy, nutty and strong a great burley at the right moisture level. Shag cut means take it easy but if you love pure tobacco this is a must.
Sillem's - Councilor 1695 50g
Great Blend
A very nice VaPer buttery bread and stone fruit subtle and flavorful a solid blend to keep in your cellar
Cornell & Diehl - Oak Alley 2oz
Solid Blend
Earthy nutty tiny bit of floral and stone fruit in the back a solid blend and something to keep as a change of pace a pure tobacco experience. Does remind me a bit of cigarettes so knocked off .5 star also my wife says the room note is terrible it has the stinky Turkish smell tastes=good smell=mad wife
Cornell & Diehl - Dark Burley
Great Burley
Good straight burley a little creamy a little cigar a little earthy and nutty. The quintessential burley that will make you take a nap if you get a little forgetful of what you got going on. I have no doubt it will work well in home blends but is wonderful straight.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Flake Unscented
Excellent Blend
I feel like this is just the black Irish x in flake form. Therefore I love this blend. Dark Strong and lovely.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Flake Unscented
Excellent Flake
This flake as always comes wet but 30 minutes dry time and you have an excellent smoke like HH Burley Flake with Gawith flare. I would smoke this all day everyday and be happy if it just came dryer and you didn’t spend 1/4 of you money on water.
Peter Heinrichs - Golden Sliced 100g
Excellent Virginia
Coming in at nearly perfect moisture maybe 5-10 minutes dry time a solid Virginia flake hay, sweet bready and hints of citrus a bright VA without bite comes in a 100g coil of flake. Excellent aging potential. A little bit of graham cracker after taste is the only flaw in my opinion.
Three Nuns - Three Nuns 1.75oz
Good blend
This version seems to be a solid blend from the start. Perfect moisture out the tin. Definitely a clove topping, lighter than Peter Heinrich Curley special with a bit of dark fired to give it a bit of complexity.
Mac Baren - HH Burley Flake 1.75oz
Great Flake
At first the dark fires seemed a bit strong after a the tin it seems to me to be a near perfect burley flake perfect moisture out the tin and solid flavor to the bottom of the bowl.No bite near perfect burley flake
Capstan - Ready Rubbed Blue 1.75oz
Great Blend
Same great tobacco and maybe the only I’ve ever had that Ready rubbed just as good as the flake with the added benefit of easy packing and as always perfect moisture right out the tin
Peterson - Elizabethan Mixture 50g
Satisfying smoke
Not surprisingly this is a great blend rich with no bite. This is a blend is a must try but lacks anything stand out so not for my cellar.
Charatan - Flake 50g
Great Virginia
This is a great Virginia quality tobacco but…nothing stand out this is a great mindless smoke and very slightly topped tobacco not always noticeable. Great but not a stand out when on sale put a few in the cellar no doubt they will age well.
Esoterica - Tilbury 2oz
Good Blend
A solid blend of it was readily available but nothing I’ll spend aftermarket money on.
Wessex - Curly Block 275g
Great Block
Cool idea and very good tobacco not in my top five but definitely worth having a few in the cellar if you can afford the ridiculous price tag
Cornell & Diehl - Anthology 2023 2oz
Another Great Blend
This is another hit by C&D they are at the top of the red VA game
Daughters & Ryan - Three Sails
Solid Choice
If your looking for a roll your own it’s good if you want it for a pipe well it’s good nothing great but for the price put 5 lb in the cellar to age
Sutliff - Cringle Flake 2023 1.5oz
Not bad
This has a decent flavor but as with all Sutliff Virginia it’s not really good and a bit bitey glad I got 2 but I wish the VA just had some sort of good quality.
Mac Baren - HH Mature Virginia 100g
Not Bad
Very Smokey when you open the tin the tin I have came with 10-11 years of age on it very mature Smokey stone fruit flavor profile a pretty good blend too bad it’s gone….
Wessex - Red Virginia Flake 50g
Great Blend
If you like red Virginia flake it’s hard to get much better cellar deep when available
Peter Heinrichs - Curly Special 100g
Great Blend
This is a solid everyday smoke a little clove maybe casing no detectable top note perfect moisture out of the tin will definitely will cellar a couple tins whenever it’s available
John Aylesbury - Classic Flake 50g
Aromatic
This blend is topped to the point it’s an aromatic I don’t like aromatics. I will jar this for a few years and see if some of that goes away but highly disappointed. When I see VA flake I want a pure tobacco experience.
G. L. Pease - Fillmore 2oz
OK Blend
Very disappointed in this blend its ok but it tastes like something mixed between dirty gym socks and spoiled something. For Red VA and Perique this is just kind of bizarre better than nothing but nothing like what you want a blend like this to taste like.
Germain - Bridge: Old Brown Flake 50g
Great Virginia
This is a good Virginia blend though I don’t quite understand the extreme appeal of these blends. This tastes like white pepper and olive oil and maybe some sort of fruit in the very back, a very savory blend that burns very well with maybe 10-15 minutes dry time out the tin.while a tasty blend the Virginia is covered up by the almost steak type seasoning. Good smoke but don’t go out of your way to find it.Best way I can put it is olive oil, salt and pepper.
Wessex - Brown Virginia Flake 50g
Great Virginia
Not the best I’ve had yet that doesn’t change the fact that this is a great straight Virginia no bite and excellent aging potential. Pure tobacco experience.
Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 8oz
Great Blend
Not Carolina Red flake plus perique but a good blend for when you run out till the next drop.
Cutters & Accessories - Credo Cigar Scissors
Good cutter
Bought just to cut rope tobacco works great.
Low Country - Natural Virginia & Burley
Good Blend
Nothing stand out about this just a cheap mindless smoke no bite and good for what it is. Nothing worth ordering again just an oz to try it out.
Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Ok Blend
This is a good blend but absolutely nothing that stands out just a cheap mindless smoke ok in a pinch but nothing to order again.
Cornell & Diehl - From Beyond 2oz
Best Balkan by C&D
You would be hard pressed to find a better blend this may be the perfect Balkan and the new Latakia just makes it sweeter. Enjoy a wonderful blend.
Cornell & Diehl - Red Carpet 2oz
Ok Blend
Maybe a seldom ordered blend my tin had 18 months age when I got it. Now this blend is ok but has an odd smell when opened and tastes nothing like you would expect a red VA to taste like from c&d and the perique is almost non existent. Now it tastes fine and it’s worth maybe a tin to see if you like it but this one’s not for me too many others that are better in this category.
Low Country - Waccamaw 2oz
Good Flake
While nothing stand out this blend is a solid VaPer the tin I opened had just over a year of age and is a very mellow and smooth. The only downside to this is the perique is pretty subtle and not a big player and not sure I care for the added oriental and therefore this isn’t something I’ll be cellaring but is certainly worth a try if you haven’t had it.
Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
Great Blend
C&D does the best job with Red VA in my opinion and this blend has a good mix of punchy perique not Carolina Red Flake+Perique but the best thing you can get when it’s not available. Not quite sure what everyone is talking about with strength though, I smoked 5 bowls of this today back to back before work and it isn’t that strong. If you want strong go smoke 3/4 bowl of HH Rustica.
Astley's - No. 44 Dark Virginia Flake 50g
Great Virginia
This blend won’t blow you away but the Virginias are sweet, bready, citrus notes and rich. That said nothing stand out with this one but put a bunch away this will age well. It’s still a solid VA
Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Good Blend
This is a good basic daily smoke but it can be a little bitey if you’re sensitive to bright VA like I am. Aside from that enjoyable and exactly what you would expect for a VaBur from C&D
Warped - The Haunting Cake 2oz
Ok blend
The reason this is called the Haunting is because it’s gonna haunt your pipe for a while this has the Lakeland essence effect I literally had to double check my pipe to make sure I didn’t have the Lakeland pipe.Glad I tried it, it’s not bad I’ll finish this tin and let the other sit for 5-10 years and revisit.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Best Brown #2 Flake 50g
Very good blend
I see a lot of vinegar and sour but I get only maybe a little sourdough. I get sweet earthy bready and mild. No Lakeland at all. Not a whole lot of bite if you take it easy and the driest Gawith blend I’ve ever had(which means only about 30minutes of dry time)I imagine with a few years on this it will be really wonderful. The more I have of this the more I like it quickly becoming a favorite.UPDATE this has now made the daily rotation cellaring as many tins as possible.
Sutliff - Sutliff 1849 1.5oz
Ok Blend
This blend is good but is a little bitey to me because of bright VA in it and I’m not finding the depth and enjoyment I do in a quality VaPer. Good blend cheap just not for me hope you love it.
Cornell & Diehl - Burley Flake #1 2oz
Good blend
If you’re looking for a clean basic down to earth tobacco you can mindlessly smoke without worry of bite and solid chops you found it.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal #7
Good blend
This is a very approachable Lakeland. Shag cut comes at the perfect moisture no bite and lots of flavor. BBQ Smokey dark fired Virginia and strong dark leaf. A great mindless smoke.
Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
Great Blend
As expected another great blend this year nice bready reds with punchy earthy spicy perique. The pinnacle of VaPers. Hard to find anything better.
G. L. Pease - Union Square 2oz
Solid Virginia
This is a good blend a little bitey for me but I’m sensitive to bright VA. Bready and malty a bit heavier on the reds.
McConnell - Flake 50g
Great Virginia
The tin note when opening was honestly odd. But when packed this is a very solid Virginia very sweet but no noticeable top note maybe sugar water but either way very pleasing dark and bready sweet Virginia the aging potential seems very high.
Orlik - Golden Sliced 50g
Great Blend
Hay citrus and bread. This leaves a very satisfying aftertaste. Not bitey it seems as if the reputation of this blend is well earned. Cellar deep.
Low Country - Edisto 2oz
Great Red Virginia
This is a great red Virginia flake great flavor and easy smoking strong enough for a Balkan guy to enjoy. This may not be Carolina Red Flake but it is a very solid and cheap everyday driver. Will put a couple lbs in the cellar
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Irish X
Great Rope
Great classic rope bold flavor and grounded earthiness a slight smoky flavor l. The one thing I don’t like is the head spin nic hit but it comes with the territory use a smaller bowl and you will find a favorite hear.
Mac Baren - HH Pure Virginia 1.75oz
Ok Blend
The flavor is good but to me its basically Capstan yellow its very mild and lacking any sort of interesting flavor. Mild hay and very little else
Capstan - Flake Yellow 1.75oz
Ok Virginia
This tastes fine and has no bite at all but that said it also has the least flavor of any Virginia Ive had.Bland and boring.
Samuel Gawith - 1792 Flake 50g
Good Old Fashioned
This blend brings forward nostalgia for an old way of doing things its a good quality flavor unique to itself vanilla ish and good tobacco bringing it home
Samuel Gawith - Best Brown Flake 50g
Good Blend
This blend has good flavor but is unfortunately for me chemically bitey. The first I have found from S.G. to give me problem if not for that solid 4 stars
Dan Tobacco - Patriot Flake 50g
Great Virginia
I love the theme of these blends and better yet they are all very good. This is a wonderful bready little hay Virginia deserving of a bit of love.
