Hearth & Home - Magnum Opus 1.75oz
Initial Review Ok
This seems to be a good blend but nothing is standing out to me. It is a bit sweet for my tastes so far I will switch though a few pipes and finish off the tin but so far not overly impressed and there for disappointed in the Magnum Opus.

Seattle Pipe Club - Virginia Jazz 2oz
Great Blend
I’m a Balkan/English guy so take my opinion with a grain of salt. This blend is quite lovely in my opinion yes figgy and dark fruit, a little punch of perique and it is very flavorful. Enough to keep a Balkan guy interested. Bright Virginia tends to give me tongue bite so when I seen just mellow reds though I usually find them a bit bland alone I decided to give it a shot and wow they work really well in this blend. I’m not converting by any means but I want to try everything once and this blend will find a place in my cellar a few tins at least for when I’m ready for a change of pace like I was this week.

Solani - Gold Label- English Luxury - 779 50g
Ok Blend initial review
After the first bowl I’m very unimpressed. Not much in the Latakia department and with heavy oriental that I love they fall pretty flat. I’m finding nothing here that is redeemable with such a high price tag. Also so far I have gotten more of a cigarette flavor than anything and after smoking cigarettes for 25 years I find this terrible. English blends at this price point should be divine and not reminiscent of lousy cigarettes.

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East 2oz
Good Blend
Though lacking a distinctive appeal this is a solid English without topping. The Red Virginias work well and this blend doesn’t cause me tongue bite like some of the bright Virginia’s do. Solid blend just nothing great.

Dan Tobacco - Gordon Pym 50g
Good Blend
Like the book this blend is good not great the Latakia is a bit lacking and the orientals dont stand out much to me. While a perfect moisture when opened it seems to cause tongue bite a bit for me. It seems a bit high in Virginias and needs a slower cadence to avoid severe bite.I will keep a couple in the cellar because the name but this wont be a go to blend.

McConnell - Boutique Blend 50g
Good Blend
Perfect moisture when opening the tin a very mellow but solid English not strong enough to stand out in a crowd but if you like 965 or early morning pipe you will like this. Worthy of a try for sure just nothing outstanding to make it find a place in the cellar.Update the paper in the tin was quite discolored so I wonder if this wasnt why it was so mellow might have been on the shelf a few years, age works great and this blend got buttery after you get used to it but not the kind of english I typically go for

Sutliff - SPS-2007 Bourbon
Ok blend
Too sweet no bourbon flavor or maybe bourbon syrup

Sutliff - 707 Sweet Virginia
Too sweet
Like candy Virginia good for aromatic blending maybe

Sutliff - 515 RC-1
Good for blending
Good for blending

Cornell & Diehl - Latakia

Cornell & Diehl - Dark Fired Kentucky

Cornell & Diehl - Bright Virginia Ribbon
Good for blending
Good for Blending

Captain Earle's - Private Stock 2oz
Very good blend
Very good for what it is but missing something. I prefer the mystic blend it has what's missing

Dan Tobacco - Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend 50g
Good Blend
A good blend but the dark fired doesn't really work good so not great probably pass on this one for the cellar.Yet worthy of trying a tin or 2. Update by the end of the tin this blend started to really work so I take back the dark fired not mixing well but still not a go to.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Balkan Mixture 50g
Pretty Good Blend
Initially a pretty tasty blend I'm looking forward to getting through the tin to see if the complexity grows and makes this a part of the rotation.(Update) After the tin its not complex it doesn't have a flavor punch but it is about the best plain old Balkan I've had love the old fashioned approach and will be adding many to the cellar

Cornell & Diehl - Folklore 16oz
Not a bad blend
When received you can smell dark fruit and spices through the bag. Once opened the smell was like a dark fruit fig newton. Moisture was pretty good requiring 10 or 15 minutes to be ready to smoke. Once lit the blend tasted quite good just fruit bread spice and sweetness. The perique comes through well at times and the orientals show up too the Kentucky hasn't shown up yet. I really hope this blend ages well in a jar because I'm not sure how this is labeled a Virginia and not an aromatic. It is strong and sweet. If it mellows with age this could be a great blend but the overwhelming strength of flavor is way too strong to be labeled a Virginia. Pleasant but mislabeled will update after a couple ounces.

Cornell & Diehl - Bridge Mixture 2oz
Great Blend
This mixture seems as they say sophisticated. First impression is giving of a complex blend not lacking any flavor. The dark fired stands out in the crowd to me and makes for a wonderful English with a twist will definitely keep a few in the cellar to age and may keep in the rotation as well.

Sutliff - Eccentric 50g
Good Blend
This blend comes on the dry side. The cake rubs out easy I enjoy the flavor but doesn't stand out in any way to me.I am glad a got a few more I will try one every year or so and see if they age well and become more than they seem now.

Drucquer & Sons - Blairgowrie 100g
Good Blend
While not bad at all very very bland balkan Im highly disappointed maybe with some age.......

Seattle Pipe Club - Christmas Spirit 2022 4oz
Great Blend Top 5
Yes and Yes Plum Pudding aged in bourbon or cognac is what my taster seems to love.

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Special Reserve 4oz
Great Blend
After covid the first blend I was able to taste and enjoy saved me from almost giving up a pipe. Also amazing to begin with

Kramer's - Father Dempsey
Good Blend
Worthy of a try yes, worthy of stocking up on no.

Cornell & Diehl - Mountain Camp
Good Blend
Good blend yes anything distinctive to keep coming back nope

Cornell & Diehl - Latakia 2oz
Its Latakia
Its what is says the best doubtful great for blending yep

Cornell & Diehl - Bow-Legged Bear 2oz
Good Blend
While a good blend not one I'll get again too peppery and lacking any distinctive appeal

Drucquer & Sons - Casbah 100g
Great Blend Top 5
This blend is good enough to rewrite a review after the first 100g tin. While at first this was an ok blend by switching pipes around I found that a 1” diameter 1.75” deep Randy Wiley made this blend pop! The complex and wonderful smoke really arose from the larger Diameter pipe the simple fact is out of around 100 tobaccos tried in the last year this is in the top 5 not only Balkans but blends I have ever had. May be close to a perfect Balkan

Balkan Sasieni - Balkan Sasieni 50g
A great Blend maybe?
Before covid this was tasting very good and after I just cant seem to find my footing again with it. I will sit on the jar for a while and hope for the best.

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop Cake 2oz
Good Blend
Not really my type of blend but when getting over Covid this blend and Plum Pudding SR saved me I was wondering if I could every smoke my pipe again until bookshop came through and tasted decent. I will go back to this soon and try with a normal pallet and hope its better than just a mental savoir

Warped - Scarecrow 2oz
Good Blend
Idont care for sweets but this blend does what it said I did make it through about half before it was just to much sweet for me.But the flavor did not disappoint Candy corn caramel chocolate all were tasted and went well together.

Missouri Meerschaum - Lord Morgan 1.5oz
Decent Blend
I hoped for more but kind of a cinnamon sweet blend no bourbon at all just kind of blah aromatic

Ashton - Artisan's Blend 50g
Good Blend
Initial impression tin note is nice and first bowl tastes good nightcap with a twist seems about right a bit sweeter and maybe an oriental kick will update after tin

Cornell & Diehl - Professor 2oz
Good but the licorice note gets old
Good flavor but it seems to me like a ribbon cut mild bengal slice and I was hoping for a more earth and leather than licorice

F & K - Merde de Cheval 1.5oz
Good Blend
Come for the joke stay for the taste though a little high $ The flavor is good this is a solid english I can see why the cranky old coot was finally satisfied.

Captain Earle's - Mystic Blend 2oz
Great Blend Top 5
I'm still working throw this at the moment but so far very impressed has very good flavor.A solid English I'm hoping as I make my way through the rest of the tin it gets more complex the 9 tobacco combo has potential.(Update)After the tin I ordered 8oz it keeps you interested I'm impressed.

Cornell & Diehl - Awakened Elder 2oz
Not too sure
The first bowl and tin note didnt impress. lacking anything distinctive to enjoy blandish after a couple weeks going back in got a bit more flavor and hoping for a bit more change to make this a worthy buy.(Update) I went back tin got better not something I'll cellar but worthy of a single tin. I believe its the cigar leaf I'm just not real fond of.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Night 2oz
Not Sure initial impression
This blend tasted pretty good on first bowl tin note was good not sure if the perique is throwing me until I get a few in or maybe some ghosting from a Pease blend going to try in cob or meerschaum soon and try to get a real taste of this interesting blend

Seattle Pipe Club - Wild Man 2oz
Ok Blend
This blend is not bad per say but at nearly double the price of most similar blends and doing nothing special at all will not buy again

Bengal Slices - Bengal Slices 1.75oz
Great Blend
Strong licorice flavor but not too overpowering not a all day smoke but great nightcap and I hope something that ages well

Cornell & Diehl - Manhattan Afternoon 2oz
OK Blend
Im not a big Virginia fan but this was fairly bland ok flavor but unlike bijou without the oriental leaf its lacking any real character. Slight bready with slight honey meh.....

Mac Baren - HH Latakia Flake 1.75oz
First Impression
I hope this gets better because I had one flake in a bowl to try and was not impressed maybe it was my taster but I basically tasted nothing good just light latakia and maybe some bright virginia I will try fresh in the morning and hope that this was a fluke, I will update after the tin is finished but so far its an ugly start

G. L. Pease - Blackpoint 2oz
Great Blend/Update
Another GL Pease that pleases. All the blends I have had from him all have that strong odd additive like Maltese Falcon with a bit of a twist This may be my favorite yet over Gaslight and Maltese looking forward to the Sextant in my cellar. Though very tasty its not something I can smoke all day the odd flavor is great for a bowl and will ghost but does go well with about anything after

G. L. Pease - Gaslight 2oz
Good Blend/Update
Not sure if its all others seem to think but its not a bad english blend little wet out of the tin but good the same odd GL Pease additive not bad flavor but will likely not buy again I do like the big leaf pieces plug though quality make as usual from C & D

Cornell & Diehl - Odessa 2oz
Good Blend/Update
Does everything ok nothing great nice blend but a little bland. After the tin something I will likely not buy again.

Seattle Pipe Club - Hood Canal 2oz
Great Burley Blend
With the Burley instead of Virginia it really makes a nutty earthy blend not real balkan but still very tasty avenue to try out and maybe come back to once a year see how the tins age

Cornell & Diehl - Dreams of Kadath 2oz
Worst blend I've had from C&D
It says Virginia looks like an odd english by readin g whats in it tastes like red wine and grape jelly that has sat out and spoiled this is without a doubt an aero and a nasty one at that or someone put the wrong plug in this tin. I love C&D and I really like Lovecraft and this was like a cruel trick or Jeremy Reeves had a fit of madness.....Not in a pleasant way.

Sutliff - Crumble Kake English #1 1.5oz
Mild Great blend/Update now Top 5er
Though this seems to be a very mild blends it is subtly complex light latakia the red virginias do shine while not a big virginia fan the burly and orientals do help. Perfect moisture out of the tin I wonder if some time may help this blend really come together.(Update) I admit was not impressed after the first flake was gone but....after that this blend got better after every bowl. Start to finish a great consistent flavor and mild English. This has become a favorite in the on the go Lovat the flavor really seems to shine in this pipe and after 2 tins has become an all time favorite dispite the lack of heavy flavor I usually go for.

Cornell & Diehl - Tuggle Hall
Odd yet satisfying
THis blend has a good flavor at first seemed simple the little into the bowl it turns Very nutty and stayed that way on through. This was a satisfying switch up and I plan on keeping a few tins cellared to try again at times every year or so I bet this blend ages very well.

Sutliff - Lord Nelson
Very Interesting Blend
From the first light to the end of the bowl this blend surprised with a bit more complexity and flavor than expected it certainly has the classic notes but the lemon virginias and nutty burley seem to really change the depth throughout the bowl while not the best I have had very tasty and good change up.

Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake 2oz
Great Virginia
While not a huge Virginia fan I had to get a few of these and the one I have gotten into so far makes me glad I did. I seem to have tongue bite issues with Virginias but I picked up a P-Lip and this is the 2nd Virginia I have run through it. I was very happy I did I was able to get the grassy, earthy, sweet flavor much better though I still yet to taste much citrusy notes as I move through the tin this gets better and better. I cant wait for the other tins to get several years on them to come back to once I get more of a taste for Virginias.(Update) This blend seems to have moments of greatness. Getting close to the end of this tin and I am now getting citrusy grassy earthy depth at times it’s a strange coming and going but when it’s there best taste of Virginia I’ve ever had.

Cornell & Diehl - String Duster 2oz
Not Bad
Im more of a Balkan/English man but this does well for those rare cravings of sweet the rum and maple pair nicely and the Virginias and Turkish hold up well as the base certainly worth giving a shot if you are on the edge about it.

E. Hoffman Company - Spilman Mixture 2.5oz
Good Blend
I have to say this blend does bring you back and has an old school taste. While a great English I like a little more latakia in mine. I put an extra half oz of latakia in it and it becomes a great blend. I see where other say it can have a bit of a licorice taste and maybe it does but it works well whatever it is and I will surely keep a couple tins in the cellar

Hearth & Home - Black House 1.75oz
Good Blend
I do enjoy this blend it does everything well but to me nothing stood out about it. I will keep one or two around for a change of pace but not worth loading up on.

Hearth & Home - Knotty Pine 1.75oz
Great Blend/Update
This blend does what it says. I opened the tin and as others have said a VERY dry little brownie was waiting. When I broke off a piece and rubbed out some the smell was great and when smoked it did very well. A cool dry tasty smoke great on a fall evening after work on the porch. That said its well worth trying and maybe throw one in the cellar but at such a high price point I wont keep much around. I do highly recommend you get at least one to support a superb effort. (Update) Today as I’m getting pretty far through the tin I lit a bowl after work with a clean pallet and after the packed fresh pipe sat in the hot car all day and I had one of the most complex deep creamy bowls I have ever had on the way home so I tried another this evening and just a good clean smoke not the same, another reason I love smoking a pipe. You never know how things will go same blend same pipe different day. The last half of this tin went fairly bad never found that great creamy flavorful smoke again highly disappointed only one bowl from this tin was pure bliss never found that again.

Peter Stokkebye - PS306 English Oriental Supreme
Good Blend
This was disappointing to me its not a bad blend at all and I will be putting maybe 8oz in the cellar but I also picked up some Sutliff BS match at the same time so my judgement may be a bit clouded at the moment. I will get maybe 8oz for the cellar but another blend in my opinion that does everything well for what it is but nothing great.

Sutliff - Tobacco Galleria: Fox & Hound
Good Blend
This blend does everything well but nothing great. I will put some in the cellar for future change of pace but maybe only 8oz.

Sutliff - Balkan Sobranie 759 Match
Good Blend
While not way up on my list this is a good blend a little change of pace the the dark fired makes for a tasty smoke. That said the price is right put a pound in the cellar you wont regret it.

Sutliff - Balkan Sobranie Original Mix Match
Great Blend another Top 5
I have never had the original Balkan Sobranie but I have been trying every English I can get my hands on. This has to be one of the best blends yet and being rated in the top 100 at the writing of this review others must agree. I like this much better than Blackhouse which wasnt bad at all but I probably wont get again because at $31.12 for 16oz at the time of this writing I will be putting a couple pounds of this in the cellar to brace against tax increase that it inevitable. I highly recommend trying this blend if your an english lover and get plenty its worth it!

Cornell & Diehl - Blockade Runner 2oz
Not what was expected
I opened the tin an was hit by rum, that I was expecting. I love C & D but blends they seem to be on the wet side which is good for aging but sure annoying when you want to try this now. This blend was not wet, perfect moisture when the tin was opened with about 6 months of age. Instead of what i thought may be a wet blend heavy in rum turned out to be a very mellow sweet bready blend with perfect moisture and just the slightest hint of rum. I love strong flavors and would enjoy a heavy rummy blend but the Virginias really shine in this blend with just a bit of sweet rum coming in here and there. I will be getting 8 oz tins for the cellar this will be a great blend with a few years on it. I have to say this is a welcome surprise and will likely be in my Virginia rotation for a long time. Also the tin of Black Frigate is now looking mighty tempting and may now be opened sooner than later.

Cornell & Diehl - Sunset Harbor Flake 2oz
First Tin Top 5 2nd bottom row/ Update what happened
I heard about this blend over and over on Pipe and Tamper podcast so finally I just added one to a shipment a while back just got a wild hair and opened it. I have got to say WOW the blending and melding of these tobaccos is sublime. I agree with everyone else get the lead out and start producing at least 8 oz tins! This blend is a good Balkan with a Great twist. {Update}I hope this was a flute of my taster but on the 2nd tin of this I was not impressed had maybe 2 bowls that tasted great and the rest had a fairly bad taste either it wasnt blended correctly or I was having issues but everything else I had over the couple days of smoking this tin was fine.......2nd Update the 2nd tin down and it was awful no idea what happened I have 2 more in cellar but will likely be a long time before I go back such a swing in taste I hope it was just a bad tin but lost my love for this blend after forcing my way through a bad tin.

Cornell & Diehl - Super Balkan
Great Balkan
I picked up 4 ounces to start because Cornell and Diehl seem to have a good history for my tastes on the english/balkan blends Ive had of theirs.I wasnt disappointed will get 16 next time, a blend I can enjoy for years if the taxes do the inevitable.

Cornell & Diehl - Bijou 2oz
Very good blend
I wasnt sure after a bowl or 2 but after half the tin I really am starting to enjoy this. The toasty Virginias and the sour Katerini and the lovely honey casing makes for a great change of pace bijou in the morning is a new trend for me.

G. L. Pease - Maltese Falcon 2oz
Very good blend
I admit this has the edge over Plum Pudding but....Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel aged is just on another level. I will be keeping a tin or 2 in the cellar but I have 10 PPBBA

Cornell & Diehl - Granby Station
A good blend
I do enjoy this blend I get lots of vanilla but no applejack notes at all. I will keep small amounts around for when I want a change of pace.

Cornell & Diehl - Poplar Camp
Was hoping for better
I very much like yorktown and expected a very good blend here but Im glad I only got an ounce before buying 16 I am very disappointed the toasty notes are gone and this is lacking any flavor of much of anything at all. I have only had the one bowl when I woke up. I will be happy to come back and update after the jar is gone but I'm not expecting much of a change.

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East 2oz
Very Pleasant Smoke
I enjoy this blend very much if you like Latakia this to me is about as high as you want to go and still enjoy the flavor of the other tobaccos.

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East Flake 2oz
Very Pleasent Smoke
I tried Pirate Kake before this and while smokable I would never want to smoke a 2nd pipe full at 75% Latakia. Star of the East though very pleasent smoke I am enjoying this very much at 50% Latakia

Captain Black - Gold 1.5oz
Its a classic for a reason
Where I grew up it was this or black n mild. Now that Im much older it has my respect but not my style.

Cobblestone - Outdoors Fishing 1.75oz
Its Good
While not a go to but nothing wrong with trying a tin and maybe cellaring one.

Holger Danske - Black and Bourbon 50g
Worth a try
While this didnt strike me as something I would want often it does a good job mellow and easy smoke worthy of a shot.

John Cotton's - Double Pressed Kentucky 1.75oz
Not Bad
Good for what it is but you can get better for your buck.

Cult - Blood Red Moon 50g
Done well
If you like Dark cherry and chocolate its a winner

Peterson - My Mixture 965 50g
Classic
A truly mellow English blend keep a few cellared

Peterson - Nightcap 50g
Classic Great Blend
This is a blend that will always be in demand. A classic for good reason the more you have cellared the happier you will be years from now.

Peterson - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Classic
EMP will always be a classic keep a few in the cellar

Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River Rum Barrel Aged 2oz
Great Blend
This has been a wonderful smoke over several tins I have a few cellared now and will order one every few orders or so to put away. The rum stands out but not too much so it doesnt hide the tobaccos, it does have some fairly spicy notes to it. I do enjoy it on over all a truly great blend

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Special Reserve Flake 2oz
Great Blend
The tin I had just didnt smoke well at all start to finish yet great flavor.

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged 2oz
Top 5
Plum Pudding Very Good,Plum Pudding Reserve Flake Great,Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged Epic! Top 5 all time

Cornell & Diehl - From Beyond 2oz
Top 5
Some blends are instant classics found one tin buried at my local shop they had no idea what they had. With about 1 year of age the first 2 pipes didnt impress but by the time the tin was finished this may be my favorite blend yet. This is a Top 5 all time favorites for sure, as for the Old Ones they bring inspiration from I will only say". Ph’nglui mglw’nath Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!"

Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
Its Latakia
I love Latakia but just why. Pirate Kake is good for what it is but the other tobaccos add nothing.Good blend but will not be buying any more its just a bit too far out there. 40 or 50% may be the highest worthy of time. This simply tasted of salt and campfire. The rest will be put to good use bolstering other blends. On a side note I smoked my first bowl in the cabin an hour before my wife got home and I'm sleeping in the doghouse tonight. Totally my own fault : )
