Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop 2oz
Unpleasantly Familiar
Aged one year in jar. Smoked on Halloween out of Dracula 608. I believe this more suited for current and ex cigarette smokers who gravitate towards the familiar tastes of nutty, slight hay grass, and char ash. Honestly, as an ex cigarette smoker who doesn’t wish to be reminded I typically search for blends that have no burley in them whatsoever. That being said, this isn’t one that I will be buying again anytime soon. * If you are trying to change over to pipe from cigs this may be your entry point.

Sutliff - 523 Voodoo Queen
Spooky season smoke
I’m enjoying this blend a lot more in this fall weather than I did in summer. This is bready and smokey with a subtle unsweetened mocha essence. Close to English but for the burley and absence of oriental. The price is right but you have to deal with the woody bits

Hearth & Home - Fusilier's Ration 1.75oz
Is a memory better?
I’ve heard that this was Russel’s attempting to match the old Bengal Slice. He has since blended the official resurrected BS. I know some people may disagree with me here but I believe I prefer this to the other.

Hearth & Home - Black House 1.75oz
Softened Kentucky
Perhaps I pinched it into the bowl just right but I am picking out more dark fired Kentucky in this blend than his others . It’s soft woodsy jasmine with a hint of brown sugar sweetness. It’s pleasant from the first light. There is minimal bite. Atm I still prefer White Knight but fans of more Virginia forward blends might prefer this over it. Strength in nicotine and more complex than a VaPerb

Hearth & Home - Magnum Opus 1.75oz
Balanced Quality
I was initially drawn to this blend by the list of orientals. This is one of those blends that builds in flavor as you smoke it. It hits the center of your tongue with a soft mix of floral and sour notes. The smokiness of the Latakia is there but plays nicely. It’s balanced so evenly in the middle of the road that smokers of tongue punch blends (Pirate Kake, Nightcap, etc) might not feel they are getting their appropriate fix. If you take your time to appreciate this one it will eventually have you reaching for it again.

Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River 2oz
I get it but I don’t
It has some wonderful red Virginia with a more than a pinch of perique. VaPer smokers may be familiar with the tastes generated by the initial pulls. The flavors are married and consistent. The bowl builds as you smoke it. All that sweet grassy mist on the tip of your tongue. The orientals are in there somewhere but in the back seat and being talked over. Smokes well once you have it lit. All of this to say that it isn't that it is bad, it’s pleasant, but the price may not be justified

G. L. Pease - Gaslight 8oz
Apparently needs aging
I was excited to try another GL Pease blend after finishing a tin of Quiet Nights. Reviews always seem to mention Gaslight and so I purchased a can and dove in. Now, I’ve had some lat forward blends before this. That being said, I missed the added complexity brought by that pinch of perique. From the other reviews it would seem that this blend may benefit from some age. I will return to the Gaslight in a few months and, if I’m still only luke warm, I’ll wait another year. Updates to my review then

Sutliff - Tobacco Galleria: Night Cap
Pleasantly surprised
First off, I’m not an aromatic smoker. I prefer English blends. That being said, I recently reached for this on a rainy day and it just made sense. Now, I’m also not much a cherry flavor guy and the cordial is present but imo it isn’t as cherry forward as Cult BRM. If anything I’ve said here appeals to you then buy yourself an ounce and see for yourself

Satisfying Until the Very End
I experience saudade at the end of every bowl.

Lane Limited - 1-Q
The Archetypal Tobacco Pipe Smell
When non-smokers think of the how pipe tobacco smells they are thinking of this. Smoking this in public may attract a passerby to excitedly recount how their grandfather used to smoke a pipe. Have you ever noticed and smelled tobacco flavored candle in a store? Yep. I believe the trick here is some vanilla flavoring that is present but not obnoxious. Anyway, if you are new to pipe smoking this wouldn’t be the worst blend to start with. I didn’t give this 5 stars because I prefer English blends to aromatic.
