I just want some pipe tobacco that doesn’t cost 3$ per gram.

Sutliff - Frosty Mint
Was hoping to try this someday
Never got the chance to try this one before it was discontinued. As a Canadian, my windows of opportunity to purchase duty-free tobacco are few and far between; and unfortunately couldn’t buy some before it would be gone forever :(

Cornell & Diehl - Byzantium
Smoke fit for a (Byzantine) Emperor!
If Constantine the Great was still alive, he’d love this! I have nothing bad to say about this blend. It’s luxuriant, smoky, and smooth and pairs nicely with black coffee. It has a pronounced woodsy/fir tree/wet forest/peaty taste that reminds me of my canoe camping trips in the Canadian wilderness, as well as a fragrant incense taste that wouldn’t be out of place in the Hagia Sophia (when it was still a Cathedral). There is little to no sweetness. The smoke is cool with zero bite, and it’s not pungent like a cigar, yet still full bodied and strong. Nearing the bottom of the bowl, it doesn’t have this unpleasant ashy taste that the vast majority of tobacco has. Byzantium is nothing short of incredible. I can confidently say that this is my favourite tobacco. If your body is a temple, then this is the incense you need to purify it!

Kramer's - Father Dempsey 50g
All day English
I love me a good Catholic themed tobacco. This is a pretty standard but delicious English mix with classic notes of pepper, leather, incense, and wood. It’s a bit one note, but it’s a very good note!

Cornell & Diehl - Manhattan Afternoon 2oz
Oh, I love this.
I’ll admit, I’ve had a hard time liking this one initially. I never actually smoked it properly, I didn’t pack it properly. But one day, I finally packed it correctly, I took my time and most importantly, I smoked it in a corn cob… and it is incredible! When you smoke it just right, you get a sublime taste, it tastes exactly like a warm toast made of fresh white sourdough, buttered, and with creamy honey on top. I was astounded. It’s bready, buttery, sweet, and honey. Smoke it in a cob!

Foundation Cigar Company - Charter Oak Maduro Petite Corona
9/10
My dad (whom I bought this for) gave it a 9/10. I’m giving it 10/10 for the price.

G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 2oz
Rich, complex, and perfectly balanced
This blend is so well thought out, it’s really well balanced. It’s very nuanced, complex rich, and sophisticated. Most prominent taste is that of incense, and fir tree. Prominent undertones of leather and pepper, and the slightest hint of sweet dark chocolate. It just leaves you saying “Wow!”.

Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening
Simply delightful
This blend is the standard to attain for aromatics. This is what all aromatics want to be. It’s not a complex blend, the taste isn’t super sophisticated, but it’s delightfully simple, and crucially, not overdone on the sweetness. The warm maple taste pairs perfectly with the rich, dark red cavendish. Love it!

Cornell & Diehl - White Burley
Classic tobacco taste
I had to get this tobacco re hydrated, because it came in VERY dry. After doing so, it was a pleasant smoke. Like nearly all blending tobaccos, it's not a complex taste. It's nutty, like warm walnuts and chestnuts, woody, and earthy, but for the most part, it just has a good, solid plain ol' tobacco taste. It burned VERY well. I only relit twice in a bowl, while keeping the smoke mild. Good for blending or smoking it straight.

Sutliff - 502 Medium English
Good but not outstanding
This blend smokes really well. It smokes cool and slowly, but might require a little drying. I get a strong taste of fermentation, and wine notes underneath. A hint of cocoa and wood can be subtly detected too. The room note is surprisingly subtle, in fact most people don’t even notice a room note at all. Overall good, but maybe a little bland. Would still recommend it for a simple, familiar English blend.

Oriental Tobaccos and Their Characteristics
- ► Byzantium is a fantastic blend, my favourite. I love how different it is from anything else with the absence of Virginia.
How to Rehydrate Pipe Tobacco- ► The best way that I’ve used is to place the tobacco in a plastic or glass container, and in the middle, place a small bowl with distilled water. Next you crumple a paper towel and place it in the bowl of water. Seal it with a lid. The paper towel will absorb the water, and will wick it in the air, where your tobacco will absorb it. It takes time but the result is by far the best.
