Rusting Lids
Sometimes you want something a little more rugged than a plastic bag. Anyways, here's a real review and not just an opinion without even giving them a try. The molded plastic is very well made and will stand up to a beating. However, I have not been able to test this in very cold temperatures to see how the plastic stands against that if it will crack under those circumstances. The only real problem I've had so far is that some of the tin lids will begin to rust. It will be random which lid you are shipped, and I suppose this has something to do with the manufacture SP has ordered a batch from. This only seems to be an issue with the lids that have a white rubber seal. The ones that have the typical orange-red-ish rubber seal haven’t had this problem so far. The white rimmed seem to be made with more carbon in the metal, whereas the orange rimmed rubber ones are maybe aluminum. I’m not sure. But you can boil the orange type lids to disinfect, wipe dry, and let stand overnight. If you get the white ones and they begin to rust, sadly, SP does not offer replacement lids. However, they are the same size as the regular mouth jar lids, and you can just replace them with that. Obviously, then losing the SP logo lid. So, here’s a third star review for a 2/3’s usable product (Jar/Lid/Ring). Hope this helps.
